Shocks for H3 Adventure Package
Try p/n's 15834280 front, 20864725 rear for adventure shocks. The differences between base and adventure shocks is in the internal valving, compressed/extended length are the same. OEM is made by Tennco who owns Monroe from what I understand.
All,
My H3 shocks are finally wearing out after 125,000 miles. I want to put on OEM replacement or similar shocks that are designed for my H3 with the Adventure Package. What are the dimension, function, connector differences between the Base model shocks and the Adventure Package model shocks? I am currently driving on OEM 285 size tires, and no changes from the OEM setup.
The AC Delco site is showing a special rear shock for the "off-road" package, but not a special front shock. The GMPartsDirect site shows there being a special "off-road pkg" shock for both front ($62) and back ($73), but their site doesn't give you specifics about the parts.
I'd be okay with going with Monroe, or some other after-market shock, if it's not a considerable price difference, but known to be be better performing. Again, I want to make sure I have matching size/connections as OEM ones though. Please let me know if you have good recommendations.
Also, was the shock replacement a lot of effort. I've tackled many jobs with my H3, but the shocks replacement is unexplored territory for me. Hoping it's a simple swap...with no special tools required.

I recently posted, all 4 for around $170.00 shipped from rockauto, after discount and rebate here:

Also, Monroe gives a lifetime warranty, if you ever need to replace them, take them to your local parts store for replacement.

I would have bought Rancho RS5000 socks for that price and had a much better shock. Factory socks are typically a cheapened down version of an otherwise decent product. When they go bad, never replace junk for junk.
I could be wrong but sensing a hummer z roast coming on......... I think there have been enough posts and threads about these reflex shocks to say people like them and they are decent shocks. Also the warranty seems pretty good to me. I have seen some posts actually a lot about people calling Rancho junk as well, and I read the 9000's are the ones to go for if any. But to each their own, I personally don't have experience with anything but stock worn out ones. I have a paid for set of bilstein 5100 at 4wheelparts with lifetime warranty as well waiting to be picked up. I bought mine because I couldn't find any threads about them being junk, just quality.and a lot of people say they are good on the 3's. The big thing was they were and I think still are on sale for 310 for all 4 corners.
Both brands (monroe & rancho) are from Tenneco.. Our Brands | Tenneco Inc.
All I can state as I previously have numerous times:
If you are looking for great handling, ride control & comfortable ride:
Monroe reflex monotubes
If you want a hard/stiff ride:
Rancho or Bilsteins..
Regardless of what shock you choose, they will degrade/fail over time, so warranty is the key!

Well, I guess I didn't know the same people made both. Hopefully the bilsteins I am gonna put on aren't toooooooo stiff. The roads here suck so I had to get something that will last a fair bit of abuse, not wheeling abuse either but just scrappy roads abuse. I can take a bit stiff but hoping I dont get a cement wheel stiffness from them. Just heard a lot about them being very durable so heres hoping.
