Default shift lock

Hello guys, need help.
my '06 H3 got stuck on shift lock. Battery is ok. Can't move shift lever to any position and it seems that it its caught in "P". Dash doesn't display any gear so engine does not start. Any idea how to fix this?

How did you determine that the "Battery is OK"?

Is your key stuck in the ignition also?

The key is moving free and goes in any position but does not start the engine. I think because the "P" is not displayed on the dash. I'm sure the battery is good because everything electric is working. I also use to put backup power to the battery in order to not discharge it with any operation

In my case it was a broken cable.

I have been looking all around and couldn't find any cut off cable or bad connection what so ever. It is true that I have had plenty of trouble with rats since i live countryside here in spain. I need to constantly repair all kind of machines due to rats but in this case I couldn't find any trace. If there is no other way I will start to open the car from the inside out and see if there is anything wrong. I thought that there is an easier way to move the shift lever out of "P" position.

The cable was broken inside the housing and was not visible to the eye.

Also there is a solenoid under the dash you should be able to hear
it engage when you depress the brake, if its not working that may
also be your problem. Thats all I have good luck!

if the solenoid works,,or not, u can disable it so u can shift without the key or with a dead battery. like if youre stuck on the railroad tracks!!.
lift the trim and u see the sol. i took the return spring off and taped the plunger in. no more messing with the brake to get moving.

Have performed the job. There is nothing I could see that's not how it should be. All cables appeared to be ok. When I check the connection underneath or behind the shift lever, I can hear the mentioned solenoid working. There is no way to crank the engine. I have tried any gear, nothing. The dash is still not showing any gear, no matter which one is selected. I suppose that it's time to move to the engine and see if there is a broken cable or whatever. The thing is that I've got no idea where to look at.

Hello,
I know now that the problem will come from the inside. As mentioned I've checked all cables and connections at the engine compartment and from the middle to the driver side. Now I discovered that there must be a problem with the roof. Under the sunroof are two holes to drain incoming water. The one at right drained it directly inside the car and upon the many connections located under the right kick panel. As you know, are there any modules that might get messed up due to moisture? Or will it be ok drying them with a hairdryer??
Thank you
