I just got back from driving to Las Vegas, NV from San Jose, CA

520 miles each way, extremely hot weather, was 119 degrees on the mirror when i was cruising through the dessert.

I has 4 people plus luggage. The H3 did well, got a little warm up to the white line above normal, so about 3/4 of the way to hot, higher than ever before but i had the AC on the whole time. Also a little more power up the mountains would have been nice, but not too bad.

I did get about 19.5 mpg and drove 75 -80 most of the way.

 

Don't you love driving in that heat? I was driving through Vegas also when it was 117 the last time about 2 years ago. Did you notice how many people were pulled over with blown out tires and smoking engine compartments? I had never seen so many.

 

yes, all the broken down cars that was crazy, like 1 every 500 yards

 

Thanks for the report. I only have 800 miles on my 07 H3 and am interested in getting the best MPG I can. I had a few questions about your setup:

1. Do you have any roof racks or light bars? Any other outside accessories?
2. Manual or Auto tranny?
3. What oil are you using?
4. How many miles on your car?

i have over 37,000 miles on my car

i took the rook rakcs i have off for the trip, i have an automatic, adventure package,

I am using a full synthetic oil

also i have a k&n CAI and gibson catback exhaust

 

Sounds likea fun trip... I did Vacaville, CA to Lost Wages for Super Chevy in 2000... and like you say it is funny seeing all the cars.
