Rims or Wheels?
Just a quick post to solicit some thought. I've heard the term Wheel and Rim used interchangably on here but was wondering if any of you "proper" types knew if one term was more proper than the other when referring to the four round things our rides roll on. I was once corrected by a professional wrench when I said rims. [sm=boohoo.gif]He told me your glasses have rims, cars have wheels. [sm=smiley16.gif] What say you?
Yeah what he said. The wheel is the entire thing, the rim is the part in direct contact with the tire.Anybody that has time to correct you on that probably has some other issues only his therapist knows for sure...
There is a proper name for everything and then 15 slang terms for the same thing. I think we would have all known what you were talking about and I doubt anyone of us would have corrected you. Bet that guy gets punched a lot.

I don't mind being corrected, as long as you're not being a phallus about it. Good natured harassment is fine as long as when it's your turn in the barrel you don't whine about it.
Example: Split Rim Wheels. To be gramatically correct the rim is the outer edge of the wheel i.e rim protecters on certain tires. No Big thing, he is just problebly a perfectionist and feels you should be informed correctly.
