Default rims and tires ordered!

Rims and tires will be in Thursday. Getting them installed later this week, ready Saturday. Very nice local shop that does lots of aftermarket work, custom work, dyno tuning, full line of rims and tires, etc.
Rims - KMC XD 775 Rockstar Matte Black, 20" x 10", with +10 offset
Tires: Nitto Terra Grappler 295/60/20.

I also just got the H3 treated with Ziebart, so the undercarriage is all treated and blacked out. Hopefully should look very good with the extra height from the new tires.

I will keep my stock rims, maybe get them blasted / cleaned up, and have them as extra set with tires. Plus, when I do sell the H3 a few years down the road, I'll be putting the stock rims and tires back on and saving the XDs for the next vehicle. I'm at 99,000 miles and I hope the H3 lasts for many more miles. I'm diligent about my maintenance and don't abuse the car, but do love the occasional offroad adventure!

I will post some pics this weekend...hopefully.

Not the best choice in size if you're going to offroad. Performace will suffer offroad. Onroad the ride quality will be worse. People say handling improves with larger wheel diameter, but that is not true, only that initial fraction of a second when you turn the wheel is improved. Basically response time in turning. Other than that there are no gains from larger wheels on an H3 or other SUV's. But there are many drawbacks. There have been many tests done from various manufacturer's, and companies, so you can just google it. I posted a few studies the other day which were all politely ignored. These are tested facts, not opinions, and not my opinion. just facts. and I have experienced first hand the failure of an H3 with large wheels on it, and the large wheels were the sole cause of the accident. which could have ended in a fatality, thank God it didn't.

I test drove an H3 awhile back at a dealership just to see. I noticed immediately that the ride quality was worse. Yes, I am used to big beefy tires with a lot of rubber to cushion and grab while offroading, so it was very noticeable.

Not even going to mention the safety issues, as no one seems to care about that. But if you're interested you can google that too. Safety concerns grow exponentially worse with each size you go up in wheel diameter.

I would stay far away from Ziebart. If you don't believe me just google Ziebart reviews. Stuff is terrible and can even trap moisture in drain areas that they clog and trap moisture in. I would stay far away.

it's not just the size of the tire sidewall. I have those "big beefy" tires on my hummer, 35s, and it rides worse than the stock tires because they have a higher ply sidewall and dependent on the psi I have in them.

20s will be fine on your hummer, it's not a lot of people's preference on the forum, but to each his own. just remember you're not driving a performance race car and that you may require additional stopping distance because of the added weight.

there is a lot more behind if it's safe or not than just the size of the wheels. if every 18"+ size wheel was horrible then most automakers would still have small wheels factory on everything but econo cars. I've hit a pot hole in my CTS on 20s and was sure it did damage but it hadn't, I've also hit a pot hole in a Pontiac g5 with 15s that bent the rim and destroyed the tire.

Ugh I'm sorry but I hate those wheels so damn much, they just scream out mall crawler poser that parks one tire on the street light island. Every Jeep, Hummer and Dodge that has those wheels are the cleanest ride and you know for a fact that it will never see anything but a dirt driveway. Plus those tires are pretty heavy so that will drop MPG even more.

Don't get your feeling hurt about what I'm saying, these are my own thought and views on this subject.

I agree staggs. to each their own, and they will have to be more careful. I have run 33's and 35's on my h3 , jeeps and rangers and with the tire pressure set right the ride is great with the right tire.

I am only referring to SUV's about the safety concerns. All of the tests done on SUV's concurred about safety and handling and ride quality. It's a completely different story with cars.

Appreciate the thoughts. I'm a little too old to care about one's perception of what is a "mall crawler poser". That actually made me laugh. I love the look of the beefy tire on the H3s, black rim on the red paint. Presents a nice aggressive look to compliment the car, and I'm sure they will perform flawlessy for reasonable off-roading. I'm not expecting to go through the mountainous terrain or boulder covered fields.

That's the first I heard of this. Thanks for sharing. I did some google research, and saw mixed reviews. some absolutely hate the product, and others said it was fine. living in northeast, we get lots of snow, lots of salt and brine, etc., and I want to take reasonable measures to make the sure the vehicle lasts and stays in good condition.
the price was reasonable, but that stuff does stink right now. I know the smell will dissipate in the next few weeks, but right now the "fresh" treatment has an oily / tar like odor.

On the MPG impact, I plan to monitor for the first few tanks to see how they impact the fuel economy. If drastic, then I may get computer adjusted, plus would also get adjusted for proper tire size and OD so the speedo is right. Might get annoying to remember than when you're going 65 mph, you're closer to 70 mph with the larger tires.

I hear ya, XD has some nice wheels and there's a set of 5 XD 125 17" series with the same tires as yours I would kill for with 10,xxx miles on them for sell down the road from me. They have a great look and some tuff rubber but $2,200 is way out of my range.

I was reading and I belive the tire weight comes to 90 lbs each. Try and get the wheel and tire on a scale and find out how much it is. I have 285/75/16 on the OEM steel rim and tire+wheel is each 90 lbs and my speedo is off by 2-3 MPH.

I'm glad you didn't take me words as a cheap shot and hope you lover g
your new set up.
