Default Respect for your heritage?

I always find it curious/humorous that Jeep owners show little respect for HUMMERs, especially given our shared heritage. I see HUMMERs as an evolution of the Jeep line...****** to AMC to AMG to GMC...but maybe most Jeep owners don't delve as far into their heritage as I do.

Anyhow...I thought it would be interesting to see how HUMMER owners viewed Jeep owners.

...and when I say "Jeep" I mean Wranglers...not Cherokees, Libertys, Commanders...and DEFINITELY not Patriots and Compasses.

What is YOUR take on Jeep?

I own both Jeep and Hummer. Both are great offroad. Wranglers and Cherokees (XJ) are at the top for Jeep the rest I can do without. I've pulled out a few wranglers with my cherokee through the years. My first Hummer was a 2006 H3 Adventure that went on trade for a 2009 H3X.

I've owned 2 Wranglers, 2 Cherokees, and a Grand Cherokee.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about a shared heritage. When it comes to HUMMER/Jeep I care about the quality, capability, and price. Well, price only comes into play when looking for something to buy.

Your personal lack of respect for Jeep, analogous to your perceived Jeep owner's lack of respect for HUMMERS is showing. It's true that a lot of Jeep (and non-Jeep) owners like to say the H1 is the only real HUMMER. Do you realize you are doing the exact same thing by replacing HUMMER/H1 with Jeep/Wrangler?

I have much respect for Wranglers and some for Cherokees, but not many models below that...they're not true to their heritage.

If you consider the Patriot and Compass a true Jeep, then you'll love the new Fiat models coming next year. At least EVERY Hummer is designed for off-road use...no crossovers found here.

...more thoughts...my question/poll was not regarding people who think H2/H3s aren't 'real' Hummers, it was simply to gauge Hummer-owners perception of Jeep; and by 'Jeep' I did mean Wrangler because Wrangler-owners and Hummer-owners tend to share similar enthusiasms.

I had a '92 Wrangler and loved it. It was getting a little long in the tooth in '08 so I started looking for a replacement. I found my '08 Hummer, and I like it better than the Jeep.

As we say in the biker community,"It doesn't matter what you ride, as long as you ride"

You missed my point completely. I come from the jeep crowd - many of them view H2s/H3s the same way you view anything other than a Wrangler or some Cherokees (your original post ruled out Cherokees). Styled after the original, but that's the end of it.

To be fair, most Jeep enthusiasts I know don't consider the Patriot or Compass to be "real" Jeeps either. To put it another way, if H1=Wrangler, then H2=Grand Cherokee and H3=Cherokee. Respect works both ways.

I owned a 77 CJ-5 and a 07 Wrangler both were awesome. CJ-5 did great on the trail due to its short body. Got rid of the 07 Wrangler for my H3 and I would not trade it in.

I have a feeling that many Jeep owners feel threatened by Hummers, tho, I've seen several bumper stickers on Jeeps that say "If I wanted a Hummer, I'd ask your sister."

I'm not feeling the love from those guys.

I've had several Wranglers and several FSJs. Still have a 1990 Grand Wagoneer. Just gotta sell it since I got the Hummer to replace it. Yeah, Jeep guys make fun of Hummers. I never understood it. I love my Hummer. Never really loved any of my Jeeps. But I still won't disrespect them or their 70+ year history.

BTW - I came in here thinking this was going to be about our heritage as Americans. And oh yeah! I respect that too!
