Replacing the stock speakers
The factory (non-Monsoon) head unit is just fine for my taste. The only real objection I have is the bass response from the speakers. There is plenty of bass energy there, but it's a little muddy and the doubling is really, really annoying. I'm thinking of just swapping the speakers for something that will clean this up some. Any suggestions?
Fosgate is a good solid speaker. They started with subs only but have come a long way since those days. We have always been a fan of Polk audio for highs. Alpine, JL audio and Extant do well too. Subs are a different story. The replacement of the door speakers alone will help clean up the sound a bit, just make sure not to purchase a speaker with an overly high watts rating. Your factory head unit only provides about 12 watts of continuous power to each speaker verses an aftermarkets ability for 35 watts or higher. Buy a set of speakers with high input levels and they will sound too quiet.
