I'd like to get a remote starter put into my 2005 H2 before the heat hits us. Something that will start it and cool down the interior. Which brand and model do you like? Strengths? Weaknesses?

 

I would like one as well but I wont until someone makes a plug in unit. I have seen to many botched wiring harness's from remote start install's.

 

I own a 2005 H2. My dealer has a local audio/custom install shop that did the install of some extras before I even bought the H2. 2 DVD players, 3 screens, etc. I went back to them when I wanted a remote starter added. I don't know the brand but it was a professional install and it works perfect. It didn't cost too much if I remember correctly. I had it done only a month after I bought the H2. I love it. I use if for both air AND heat. I won't own another Hummer without one. You will love it too. If you can't get help from your dealer, find a custom alarm installer. They are the guys who can help you. My original remote controller was replaced with new ones to operate the starter too. Good luck.

 

If your looking at any systems made by DEI such as viper, clifford, python, hornet, valet, and like 7 others... Their new 2 way remote starts from the last 8 months or so, are having an almost 100% failure rate. I think whats dying is only the colored screen keyfobs, the local dealer was talking about it the other week when i was having them install my older viper in my h2. Issue hasn't been fixed yet and their using the 1 way remotes in the mean time.

I'd inquire on this to whoever your looking at buy it from. The 2 way are great since you have a confirmation the vehicle did what you asked w/ out visual confirmation.

I have the viper LCD 2 way and the viper LED 2 way. The lcd screen is nice, but i'm pissing through batteires every couple months. I dont think i've ever changed the batteries in the LED keyfob system. I'd go LED if I ever had to buy another one.

 

Good point about getting an LCD screen. When I was looking at the various models that same thought went through my mind. It's just a starter. Who needs color?
