Default Reliability?

Hi! I'm new to the forum and I have a quetion. My wife and I absolutely LOVE the H3 (the base model is fine for us). Our only concern is the H3's reliabilty. I've read discouraging reports in various sources, that indicate the H3 is troublesome. Can anyone shed some light on this?
TIA for any replies.

Default RE: Reliability?

First of all, welcome to the forum!! As far as reliability, I really don't think there is a car lineout there that does not possess some level of reliability issues. I run the snot out of my vehicles, & now have 11K on my 3-month oldbase H3.To this point my chiefcomplaints have been with the dealer (now resolved), and the wimpy horn.

In most cases, I can runa vehicle to 100K inless than 2 years, and will tell you that the first11K on thistruck far exceeds the reliability of my previous05 Expedition, 04 F-150, 02 Wrangler,00 Grand Cherokee, and please don't even get me started on my wife's Snoopy Dog looking, piece of trash 05 Liberty.

I am sure you will get some serious negative reliability comments about the vehicle, but then; When was the last time you turned on the 5:00 news and didn't think they were purposely looking for bad news to report?

I won't add any negative reports on the reliability of my H3. It's been six months, 15,000 miles. I've had to fix a few issues under warranty but nothing left me stranded, caused any damage or was anything really inconvenient. I have a dealer that's treated me well, fixed things on time and always provided a loaner car, Caddy or Hummer.

We can't tell you what the long term reliability is going to be since the H3 simply hasn't been around that long. No one can rate the long term reliability yet. But I'll tell you why I bought it - it was simply the best GM vehicle I've ever been in. I prefer to buy American, though sometimes I haven't, and this was an easy, easy decision. Get it!

I have 11K on the ticker of my 07 H3Adventure, no problems, and NEVER HAVE BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP! Well, I did have to pick up my license plate from my salesperson a few days after I got it. Mine has been over the river and thru the woods too.

What "sources" did you use that concerned you?

I've been back for warrenty work twice in the 19 months I've had the H3. One was minor and the second was for the head replacement. Both were taken care of promptly by the dealer and I've been very happy with the H3. Right now I've got about 26,000 miles on it.

I've seen one H3 come in with 80k on it. Still in excellent shape and the driver had no complaints about the vehicle. He was in for normal maintenance.

Another great perk that ALOT of manufacture's don't offer is loaners if your truck is in for warranty repairs. So if you do have a problem, you'll still have some wheels while it gets fixed!

I did a Google search: "Hummer H3 reliability," and read quite a few of them. The latest issue of the Consumer Reports buying guide lists the reliabilty of the H3 as "well below average." I believe it was Business Week that referred to the H3's reliability as "mediocre." And so on...
I once bought a car, and Audi TT, the reliabilty of which was listed as "below average" by Consumer Reports. I never had a lick of trouble with it. I bought the TT because of passion, and I suspect we'll buy the H3 for the same reason.
BTW, there was a test of an H3 Alph on TV's MotorWeek, and it was climbing over the most unbelievable boulders. I can't believe how capable the H3 is!

The loaner cars and 4-Year warranty are huge advantages! The dealership experience atexclusive Hummer dealerships is also top-shelf. One opened in our area and they are great!

We've got an early '06 with 35k miles now. It had the head issue that was fixed under warranty, otherwise it's been great for the last 25k miles. The truck in our home fleet is always a long term keeper, I really have to say that I think we'll get at least 8 to 10 good years out of our H3.

Welcome to the forum BTW!
