Default Rear Tire Carrier

Well, I finally got around to removing my rear tire carrier and it is now available for sale. I live in Waxhaw, NC - near Charlotte. It's pretty heavy so I think that picking it up would be best. I could ship it but I think it will be expensive.

Here are some photos. I'm asking $ 300.00. I believe that's a fair price.

Take a look at the pics and let me know if anybody is interested. Thanks.

How did you remove it? Did you buy a conversion kit? I want to remove mine too.

The stock rear tire is a piece of cake to remove. Firstly, remove the spare tire from the rack. Open the rack and swing it out of the way. Two bolts hold the locking bracket on the drivers side. These bolts go through the bracket and then through the tow hook and into pre-threaded holes in the bumper. Remove the bracket, get some shorter bolts with the same thread pitch (I opted to go with stainless steel) and bolt the tow hook back into place. Now go to the other side. I recommend that you have someone hold the rack (to take the weight off) and do the same thing - remove the bolts, remove the tire rack and bolt the tow hook back on with the new shorter bolts.

BTW - I have already sold mine so it is no longer available. Thanks for all the calls.

That sounds simple enough but what do you with your license plate? I'd like to put mine back were it belongs on the rear hatch.

How come you wanted to remove the tire carrier? Looks or easy access to the rear lift gate?

A little of both but it is going to be in the way when I tow my boat this summer. I don't like the look with the tire on the back, I bought a hard cover but I still don't like it. My last 2 hummers had the tire inside but I couldn't find one without the tire carrier this time around & now I wish I would have kept looking.

The license plate fits directly in the recessed area in the middle of the rear hatch. If the white plastics screw retainers are missing, any auto shop carries them. Snap em in and screw on the plate.

Why did I take it off? PIA! I hated having to swing it out of the way every time I wanted to open the hatch. Also, I'm lending my Hummer to my daughter for one year. She's a veterinarian and will be doing ambulatory work and needed something to carry a vet box around in. She traded me her Forerunner. I think it also looks better where I put it. I mounted a safari rack on the roof racks and bolted it to that.

Do you drill holes for the retainers? What about the license plate light?
