Default Rear hitch

My 2007 H3 didn't come with a rear hitch and I needed to pull a small trailer. Instead of installing an aftermarket hitch I chose to use the the factory cut-outs in the bumper brackets. I bought a 45 inch piece of 2x2 tubing 1/4" thick for less than $15 and a 6" long receiver hitch for $12. I removed the rear bumper, notched the bumper with a die grinder, installed the 2" square tubing, and welded every thing together. I have a total of $30 into it, much better than $180 or more for a hitch.

Wiring was already there in the split loom with the license plate light wiring. The wiring was tucked in tight and hard to see but was there from the factory. I just pulled it out and attached a 4 wire plug since all my trailers are small and light.

How does one go about selecting the correct ball for the hitch?
