Default Rear Fender Question

Hello all,

My friend and I are having a debate about his Hummer. On the rear fender where the gas cap cover is. Is that fender made of plastic or steel? That part is the same color as rest of the body, but it have a rubber seal that separated from the main body. Can someone set us straight?

Thanks!

I did and he still wouldn't believe me. He wouldn't let me put a magnet on it.

Google it if he doesn't believe you.
The H3 also needed ample fender flares to accommodate 33-in. tires and a tight turning radius. GM wanted the flares to be plastic but to look like steel. Accepting the challenge was Flex-N-Gate Forming Technologies LLC.
"This is the largest plastic piece that's been used by GM, integrated with the vehicle," Stover says

Really? Corvette has been using large front and rear bumpers since 1968.
Our fenders don't look that large.

I quickly verified that the fenders were plastic before I even bought mine. I pressed and tapped on them, doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. I'm glad they are plastic, less dings in parking lots..

Nothing but good olemodern plastic made of thermoplastic olefins (TPOs), polycarbonates, polyesters, polypropylene, polyurethanes, polyamides, or blends of these with, for instance, glass fibers, for strength and structural rigidity.
