Default Rear Door Clunk

Spent time searching this forum on this last night to make sure I wasn't asking what was answered. I found mention of it but not much for solution. I'm assuming it's my rear door because it's hard to tell when I'm driving, but it's a loud heavy clunk in the passenger rear corner on a decent bump. I've removed the jack and that maybe helped a little, but it was hard to tell the difference. I also checked the screws in the catch and the guide underneath it where the door shuts, they're all tight. I can open the door and lift and there is no slack at all in it, it's not like the hinges are loose.

Has anyone actually resolved this issue, and how? Thanks!

Check your rear leaf spring shackle and bolts, they have been known to get loose, and an occasional shackle has failed. While you are under there, look at the rear shocks and leaf spring mount bolts.

There was a very old post here from years back, somebody had to bend the triangular yellow metal door stop flange to make it a bit tighter to stop some noise with the door?

Good luck.

Thanks Doc, I'll check those out. I had thought about the shock, just haven't had a chance to get underneath and really look around yet.

The thing underneath the catch? Hmm. If I don't find anything wrong underneath I guess I'll play with that...

Check the rubber grommets on ALL of your rear suspension parts. Time and salt (dependent on your area) can erode rubber pretty quickly.
-Leaf Springs
-Shocks
-Sway Bar/Sway Bar ends

the tapered piece carries the weight of the VERY heavy door/spare tire.
its adjustable. do it soon or the hinges will take the wear huh...

It's at the shop now getting a new inner tie rod, and I did ask them to have a good look at the rear suspension.

So loosen it up and raise it a tiny bit?

Ok, thanks. I tried to get it to close on a floor mat without it sticking out to see if that made a difference but I think it pushed them in when it closed. I'm just going to close it on the floor mat with it sticking out when I leave work to see if that makes a difference.

The tool you use to adjust that piece, is it called torx? Any idea what size? I'm going to have to buy one... Thanks!

size?, might buy a set and save money. its dark here so i took a flashlite and looked at the 2 pieces. the frame mounted tapered assm seems to be coated with a hard teflon type substance telling me that the 2 slide on each other and should be snug.
im betting that a tiny gap, .020 or so would let the VERY HEAVY door bounce enuf with bumps to make noise or be felt.
the latch assm might set the proper position for the door as well?
its also adjustable. the manual might precisly describe the procedure.

id draw pencil line around all items and move the door metal in 1/16 inch, close door and drive down the rr tracks!
