Power steering
Hello all,
New to posting but not to the forum. Have learned a great deal from the forum and appreciate that.
I’ve been searching for days and maybe I’m using the wrong terms, maybe someone can help.
power steering started whining suddenly, feeling the shutter in the brake pedal as well as the slow steering response.
I removed the power steering pump and rebuilt it. I’ve done this many times before but this time it was different.
I found this little plug on the magnet. Smaller than a dime and looks like a mini freeze plug.
I can see where it have from on the pump body so I pressed it back in.
reassembled and reinstalled.
guess what …. Same problems after rebuild.
wondering if that plug was a pressure plug and it blew out again.
anyone have any knowledge about this?

I did bleed the system, did get a lot of air out.
the o-rings on the high pressure line looked to be in good shape so I left them alone. Maybe that could be the reason it’s still whining.
still confused about what that small plug could have been for and why it had come out.
I’m tempted to tear it down again just to see if it blew out again.

The reason I say check o rings, had the same issue as you but I also changed out the cooler, 3 months later the cooler started to leak and turned out the O-ring was messed up. Once I fixed it the noise went away

Just an update, I pulled the pump again and that little freeze plug had blown out again.
swapped out a new pump and no more issues.
still have no idea what the plug was for but the issue is resolved.
my thoughts are if you decide to rebuild and find that plug on the magnet, don’t rebuild just replace.
