powder coating
I am thinking of powder coating my Chrome H3 wheels Black - the people who have done this are pleased with the results and does the coating hold up and stay on? –
Also I guess I would then have to paint the Plastic hubcap black and does the hold up?

I bought my H3 2007 a month ago for a great price and very low mileage...but the best part was it was all black with black powder coated rims. I bought it for the look...there are no H3's in my area that look like mine.
It has its downfalls tho;....Be careful when going thru those new car washes were they use power spray for tires..I learned my lesson...but I had to use black spray paint to fill in a few minor flaking spots...
Dont know much about powder coating and maybe my tires were done cheap...Also it looks great with the spare the same color and style...I get alot of compliments.

The trick is getting all the OLD finish off the wheel..so the powder can "grab" the suface. I had the front splash apron..the aluminum panel with H3 stamped on it...powdercoated..and it stands up to the road debris just fine.
Powder coating, when done right is the best option, it can be relatively inexpensive... look at the wheels on Hummeron37s H3X... They are my old wheels and I had them powder coated for him, at $65 a wheel they came out fantastic! My other set of wheels I have are too OEM powder coated black and I wheeled with them alot for over a year, the coating held up great...
FWIW most finishes on wheels are already powder coated. A good sanding will ensure the best adhesion and they will take a serious beating with powdercoat(I would sandblast them just because I can and its easier).
As far as the lug nut covers, hit them with a rattle can or pay for some good urethane there gonna be the weak spot for scratches so keep it cheap....
