Default Please help! How much is this H1 worth??

Hi All,

I need your expertise in determining the value of an H1 I am interested in purchasing. I have the opportunity to make a deal on a trade for a 1998 H1 4 door soft top with 33,000 miles. The #8 cylinder is bad and the block is cracked, a very common problem with the earlier 6.5 Turbos. The person selling the H1 had her mechanic somewhat disassemble the motor.

I was estimating about $5k for a replacement motor, possibly replacing with a 6.5 Optimizer motor, and another $5k in labor for a reputable shop to install. So, I estimate about $10k to get the truck back up and running. The only other issue I can see is a leaking front differential.

The truck is in really nice shape. The paint is original, with some minor scratches and the interior needs a good cleaning. With all that said, what would be a reasonable price to pay for this H1 with blown motor?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Danny

I would go with a new GEP P400. There a bit more than 5k. My brothers shop Big Dog Offroad is a new am general gep & gtp dealer. Why is the ucp missing? If your going to do a body lift do it before replacing the engine(it will make your life so much easier)! Is this an East Coast truck with rust issues or not? More info would be needed to try to guess an estimate value of the truck.

A really nice 98 open top, nice interior, good motor, no major mechanical issues is roughly a 50K truck. You can make the deducts from that as you examine the truck and factor in any condition issues.

Thanks for the replies!

The UCP is not missing, it's in a sealed bag on the rear seats. The truck is an east coast truck, but there are no rust issues other than some minor surface rust.
The paint is original, with minor scratches, most can be buffed out. The top has no tears and the interior just needs a really good cleaning.

I did a Carfax, and the truck has no accidents and 3 previous owners.

I will have to look into Big Dog Off-road, I see they are in Golden, CO and also going the GEP P400 route.

I have attached some additional pictures.

I can most likely get the truck for around the $20k range.

What do you guys think? Good deal or not??

Thanks again for the help!

It's only worth as much as someone will pay for it. Whats the asking price? Start off at about 75% of that and try and go down from there. You will put more into it than you pay for the truck if you get a good deal.

Ian,

She wants $20K, but I am going to offer her $15K for the truck.

Does that sound like a fair price?

Thanks again.

Thats about 75% to me. I know a guy that bought a running truck that needed a bit of work for about that and it is a nice truck and no rust. Rust is like cancer.

Somebody has done a lot of detailing under the truck. That is nice but make sure they didn't paint over the rust. If no rust issue the truck is worth much more than the asking price. Somebody will pay her full price if the truck is as described.

Anyone the details under their truck either has something to hide( unless this is a yellow wagon from s.a. & it 's not and he would mot sell the truck so be concerned). Get your pocket knife out and scratch off the some of the New paint. If that thing is rusted out I wouldn't even offer half of that. Please have an independent mechanic- that knows hummers look at it before you buy the vehicle. (you can thank me later)
