Pioneer Navigation
Hi from Down Under in Oz
I have a question that hopefully you fellow Hummer owners could help me with
I am looking at installing this unit http://www.pioneer.com.au/Products/N...VIC-F20BT.aspx in my 2008 H3 which has a monsoon sound system in it.
I imagine it is the same as the american version http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...ms/AVIC-Z120BT
The warning chimes run through the standard stereo system? and if so how can you get them to work on the new pioneer one....is it even possible?
Thx in advance for any help as it can be hard getting a straight answer from a car stereo salesman

Yeah dude you'll have to get an onstar adapter harness in order to use it and keep the door chime and such....but the onstar harness is like 85 dollars and the regular harness is like 10. Screw the chime and screw onstar for 75 dollars.
Oh yeah if u really want a chime u can buy an aftermarket chime and wire it in with the door lights for around 10 more dollars.
Also if u have that headunit check out:

short answer, yes it should still work as long as the vehicle is equipped with the onstar brain.
I believe it will, the door chime is run through the onstar computer whether or not it is activated. I really dont understand why, but thats the way it is. Using that harness should retain your factory chimes with or without the availability of service. I say just screw the chime and roll without it. I did and never missed it.

You will need the GMOS-04 adapter to retain onstar, the door chimes and the amp for your premium monsoon system. You will also need an antenna adapter as the antenna connector is different for GM vehicles then what Pioneer takes. You will also need a bracket to install the new radio. I know all this because I just installed a Pioneed navigation unit in my H3 about 3 weeks ago. One thing you need to remember, you will not be able to control your Sub with the new setup, it will stay on constantly and you can not raise or lower the sub level or turn it off, even though Pioneer will show those options. You can use the Base Boost but that will increase base for all speakers so at higher volumes you will get distortion with higher base (just in case you like your radio very loud). If you prefer sound quality and base over navigation I would suggest to stay away from aftermarket and keep your monsoon. It is only worth installing if you want the navigation. I run into few other obstacles after installing it so if you run into anything let me know and perhaps I can assist (one of them was very low volume even at highest levels)
