Default Pioneer AVIC-F77DAB Installed!

This model of Pioneer is probably UK or European "only" rather than SAT radio but no doubt Pioneer have the equivalent model in the US (maybe the AVIC-8100NEX?)

So in case anyone is interested I've just installed this in a 2005 H2. The key tricky areas were:-

  • Mounting a DAB antenna (not for US)
  • Mounting the GPS receiver which was nice an easy and hidden under the plastic dash.
  • Mounting the microphone above the driver's grab handle, again really easy.
  • Mounting a Pioneer back-up camera (rear view) in the spare wheel. This took a couple of attempts but eventually looked very good and simple, no problems with number-plate light or heat. Routing the wires through the cab turned out to be easier than expected in the end. The camera comes fitted with an in-line fuse which I think is a must and not always supplied on the cheaper cameras.
  • Getting the right adapter kit.
  • Wiring in the radio using the Axxess GMOS-04, Axxess ASWC-1 modules. Incidentally I had to update the software on the ASWC-1 before it would work. Installing the cabling tidily is not easy but somehow it all went in.
Be prepared for removing the center console and instrument cluster which is a little daunting, but not so bad once you have all the answers.

Just to say the system is outstanding, everything works, steering controls, back-up camera with guide-lines, mic quality superb with noise cancelling I suspect, Sat NAV, Radio FM & AM, GPS, DAB, USB1 & USB2, HDMI, SD, media formats including FLAC, Bluetooth, hands-free dialing etc. Sound quality is amazing, Android Auto, App Radio (CD-AH200 adapter required) and Mirror Link works, all very nice, I'd say it's as good as it gets!

I've not made use of the rear entertainment side of things but I will install front camera when I get some more time.

No doubt some people will want pictures, I'll do my be to oblige.

Any questions about the install please ask, I based mine on the Elcova forum which was spot-on, however there were questions that I had but couldn't easily find the answers.

I have an older Pioneer Appradio 3 which I quite like. I did find that after switching from mirrorlink to mhl it's much better. I found mirrorlink to be a bit unreliable, but that may just be a phone/appradio3 thing.

Thanks for posting this. I have a couple of questions
I'm guessing you added a camera & didn't have the oem installed already? Running 1 or 2 cameras?
Did you retain all the stock chimes for the doors being open, etc?
Where's the HDMI port?

The only negative thing I see about it is that it's WVGA (800x400 resolution) and not 1280x720 or better 1920x1080. It's not that bad, but odd considering it supports HDMI.

Off topic, you swapped your 6.0L for a 6.2L? Did you also put in a 6L80e as well?

Thanks for you comments.

Indeed no OEM kit present so installed a back-up cam to start with and have another ready to mount for the front, so yes ultimately running 2 cams and I believe there is an icon to toggle between them (MAP button long press then an ICON) but yet to try it.

Yes stock chimes retained and contrary to posts saying the GMOS-04 sounded "tinny" to my ear there was no audible difference.

For HDMI see pic. WVGA is a bit "last year" but I can live with it, there's no rear displays either in my H2 ... for now!

Re the engine size, when I bought my H2 I was miss-informed about the model year being 2006, that was when it was 1st registered in the UK, it was in fact an 05 MY
