Here comes that question again... I prefer "tough" 4x4's and the old Jeeps have a very special place in my heart. One thing all of the other 4x4 manufacturers have forgotten (including HUMMER) is that there's beauty in simplicity. Here's whatI like in a 4x4:
[ol][*]Solid front and rear axles, IFS is for wimps.[*]Front and rear lockers.[*]Shift levers instead of buttons, ***** or other electro-pneumatic doo-dads.[*]A transfer case withyokes on the ends instead ofslip splines.[*]A factory option for vinyl flooring instead of carpet.[/ol]
Do they make a vehicle like this anymore? Nope. Do they make CJ Jeeps anymore? Nope. Can I get a reasonably tough 4x4 that won't beat the crap out of me on a trip? Yep, it's a HUMMER H3. Can I love Jeeps and HUMMERs? Ask Impy, he does. Believe it or not, you can like two different vehicles and I really like my H3, it's just not my 79 CJ-5.

 

Great. Now I have to go buy an older Jeep to make myself feel like a man. Apparently the H3 doesn't cut it

I wonder if the wife will buy that excuse for me to buy a used Wrangler

However we must remember we build our trucks for the type of off roading we like to do. If you prefer crawling over boulders andwhat notthen yes IFS if for wimps. I 100% agree.

But if you prefer to do what the truck in this pic is doing I would say IFS is anything but wimpy..I have yet to see a trophy truck with a SFA ( not to say they dont exist ).

I do agree with levers instead of electro switches................and with mpg concerns up the waazoooo with current gas prices, WTH is a 2WD T case option??????
Am I all alone, or does everybody agree that both the 2 and 3 could easily pick up 1 mpg+ buy just taking out the front on road? Whoops, I digressed. []
