I have been running a Spectre filter for the last year or so with a K&N occasionally. I know Doc Olds has stuck by the paper element for normal use so I decided to switch back for comparison. My driving habits are very routine each week so I have confidence in my observations.

Putting the paper filter back in I gained a minimum of +1 mpg's I acutally think it's a little more but I need to run a couple more tanks through. I really haven't noticed much negative impact on throttle response either.
