To the people that are renewing it, are you getting it just in case of accident?? I don't need directions or the phone service so I'm having a hard time justifying it. Is there some other use for it I don't know or is it strictly for the peace of mind in case you are in a wreck?

thanks

No not just piece of mind. I dont have a nav system in mine and i like the fact I can call and get directions 24/7. Heck we were driving and my son wanted to find a surf shop, so I called and bam in a few seconds had a number/name and directions and had no idea where I was at. I use to think it was stupid but I guess I have spent money on dumber things. I actually called them last week and they found a hotel that would accept dogs, theymade the reservations for me. The wreck thing had nothing to do for me as I guess you never think its going to be you but if it did like fellow board members then that would be nice to. So for 25 bucks a month I have it, not going to swear by it but I actually call them for tons of stuff. I even got weatherand all kinds of junk off them. As all say here, imho I think it is an ok thing to have! Plus there are times when I have no cell phone reception at all and I usually keep about 30 minutes in ONSTAR for that too.

Onstar, is truely worth its weight in gold. Being able to get the vehicle reports on your email, and pretty much on thefly as well. The piece of mind knowing that is you are in and accident, that they will notify police for you as well. Being able to call for police if you see an accident happen as well is very nice (not to mention possibly life saving). I have the safe and sound plan, no need for the phone or directions service (wife has a garmin gps unit if i need it, wait, men don't use those things, we know where we are going all the time, thats why we won't go in and ask for directions, damn you onstar, damn you)
But i think $18.95 a month is a small price to pay for the added comfort and piece of mind that you get from them. And if you can get it cheaper then kudos to you, and shame on them.

There are good reasons to have the Onstar other than accidents. I recently had a disagreement with a chainsaw while at our property in the woods. While we drove to a spot that an ambulance could reach, a quick press of the emergency button got local 911 on the line and a rendezvous coordinated in a hurry. I believe I'll renew.

BTW, 25 stiches and a few week recuperation and all is once again well.

I've had my OnStar for several months and rarely ever use it. But...It's really nice to know it's there if your air-bag blows and you're out on some back road. OnStar knows where you are, mash your blue button sometime and ask them to zoom in on you just to make sure its GPS function is working properly.
