This one is for you IK - Talk about Un-American?
The NFL just awarded a $1.4 BILLIONcontract to a SWEDISH firm to build the new Giants stadium. WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?!?
Last time I checked there were plenty of AMERICAN builders here in the U.S. that could hire some people to build a stadium. If the whole Ford thing isn't enough. I just lost all respect for the NFL, or whoever decided to do that.

I know it sucks, but I'll bet they had a very good bid to get it done. This just happened here in Pittsburgh. A Ohio company outbid the Pittsburgh workers on a project. and instead of offering a lower bid, the union thought it would be best to try and block all trucks from the Ohio company.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't get it. .....Just because a company hires the lowest bidder (and gives you a chance to match it or submit another bid), why try and stop production and take away pay from other people.

I just feel the right thing for the NFL to do is to go with an American company where the money and profits made from the deal will go back into the economy of the sport for which reason it is getting built in the first place. From a business perspective, I agree with you, BUT, would you not agree the NFL is probably the biggest and best American past time next to Baseball? Therefore, even though it could possibly cost a little more money, I just think it's wrong for a sport that is based almost solely on the profits of the American people is goingto put all of ourmoney into a company in another country rather then back into our own economy. YES I know it will be American workers most likely and contractors, but the profits will go to another country. It does bother me, however, what you said about the unions blocking the workers. That is definintely not right, but that I guess is what we were talking about in the other Ford thread. I don't detest the NFL or whomever decided to do that, because it was a business decision, but sometimes it's better to put the human factor into the equation rather then just the monitary cost factor. Just my opinion
Mike I disagree with you.
The economy is global and it seems right to me that the best company wins, wherever it comes from.
You don't know if this Swedish firm is not financially controlled by an American pension fund.
In my opinion financial decisions made by private companies should not be altered by nationalism because the target of a private business is to make profits not politics.
just to give you an example, you should known that, last week the US Army just signed a 1.5 bn $ contract with MICHELIN, the french tires manufacturers, for the next ten years the trucks (including the HUMVEE) the cars, the planes used by the your military are going to use FRENCH tires.
ODD?
Not really, because MICHELIN is global, they have 7 factories in the States where they employ more than 22.000 AMERICAN workers.
32% of their shares belong to american financial institutions.
At the end most of the profit coming from that contract will be re injected in the American economy.

Mike, you also have to remember that the NFL is a worldwide league....in the offseason here in the states there is an NFL europe overseas that most rookie or players needing extra work play in to get ready for the next NFL season here in the states. Plus, Living about 20 minutes from the meadowlands (where the NJ Giants and Jets play....yes I said NJ...my taxes pay for that damn stadium) I've heard about the whole process of the new stadium build....the swedish comp. did bid wayyyyy lower than any local company, but unlike buying an import car the materials and everything else needed to build the stadium is going to be USA made and supplied....sucks for the local union workers but won't impact our economy negatively.
