Old guys still have it..
Team HUMMER wins the Tecate/SCORE Baja 1000 for the fifth consecutive year.
Driving the new Team HUMMER H3 SUV in his 38th consecutive SCORE Baja 1000, Rod Hall won the Mini Stock Production class on November 20th, just two days shy of his 68th birthday.
This is the 18th Baja 1000 victory for Hall, one record among many held by the fabled off-road veteran and owner of Team HUMMER. Rod's eldest son, Josh Hall won the Full Stock Production class in the H2 SUV, which extends his winning streak to six races. Josh's brother Chad Hall, winner of the last four Full Stock Baja 1000 titles, finished a close second in the Full Stock Production class with John Griffin of Mission Viejo, CA finishing third in an H1. This years race was so tough that the only production vehicles to finish the event were HUMMERs. Since HUMMER first began competing in the Baja 1000 in 1993, Team HUMMER has won this internationally recognized off-road racing event 9 times, each time with a Hall family member behind the wheel.
I'd really like to see details about what Rod Hall Racing and Team Hummer did to prep the H3 for the Baja 1000. I couldn't find much (none) on the Rod Hall website.
The area I think it most at risk on these things in off road situations are the IFS front end, and the tie-rods on the rack and pinion steering unit.
