Up to now Shorty is the only one I have told this story to, as I was told to keep it confidential by my attorney...but I can share now. On November 14 my son Sean was prescribed Zantac for an acid reflux condition. Now keep in mind that Sean was 3 months old at this time. As a stay at home Dad and main caregiver to the kids I filled the script and gave the medication the Sean twice a day as directed. On December 14 I called in a refill and it just so happend that that was the night of my wifes Christmas Party for work, so we picked it up on the way to the party. When the girl gave us the medicine my wife looked at it and said..wow I'm on the same thing...HUH?!?! You don't have aid reflux? No, I'm on it for my allergies. So now I'm totally confused...it turns out that the idiot who took the script from me originally misread it and filled it with Zyrtec instead of Zantac.....Zyrtec is a strong allergy medication and I have been told by poisen control and the customer service woman for the company that makes it that it is VERY dangerous to give to a child under the age of one...given to an infant there is no idea what bad things could result because it has never been done before. I guess I should have caught it but I just thought Zyrtec was a generic for Zantac....thank god the wife was with me when we picked up the refill or the poor kid would still be on it.We brought the kid directly to the doctors and he has been getting tests regularly every since, so far we have no idea what damage may have been caused...and we won't know for years to come unfortunetly. The docs think he will be fine and that there is no brain damage but there is no way to be sure that 5 years from now he won't develope slower than a normal child because of this. We are suing the company, which is a big chain pharmacy...I cannot give the name at this time....but you all have probably gone to them at one time or another. Although I am not a religious nut, I'm asking for all my friends to please include Sean in their prayers, I'd much rather get no money and have the kid be ok then get rich because he's Brain Damaged.

Impy, glad it seems like everything is ok. Nothing pisses you off more than somebody messing with your kids. Sean will be in our prayers.

 

I'm sorry to hear that. That's horrible. If you need anything you let me know. I have the world's largest lawfirm at my disposal. I'm sure he will be fine. Doctors these days are afraid to tell someone they will be ok unless they are 100% positive they will be. I would bet you have nothing to worry about.

Let me guess .. Walgreens?!?! Them morons were supposed to fill CELEBREX, an arthritis medicine I take for my back ... instead I got CELEXA ... a fricken SSRI (anti-depresant)... can't believe they took greater care when it was for a child .. hope everything will be ok Impy!!!

 

thanks guys...He has one problem ever since he stopped taking the zyrtec...the only way to get him to poop is to take his temperature rectally...that makes him poop...otherwise he just will not go. Docs have no real reason as to why yet...have to wait for the latest round of test results to come in.

 

Damn Impy, sorry to hear that. I hope Sean is ok and hopefully everything was caught in time. Thank god your wife looked at the bottle. He will be in our prayers bud.

dude, i've thought about this since you told me, and every time i don't see a post from you within the last hour i start to get nervous. i'm not a religious man, and praying would be extremely hypocritical of me, but i do wish the best for you and Sean, as well as the other love of my life (she'll tell you about it some day) and Sean's big brother (i'm old, but virile, but my memory sucks). you're in my thoughts, you tubby bitch . . . .

But I always check the scrip and what they gave me as a force of habit.The place I went had to fire the guy filling the scrips just to cover their butt.
