Default OBD II Scan Tool Recommendation

Anyone have a preference for an OBD II Scan Tool? I went to Autozone for the free read, but would like to have one. Not trying to go overboard, just looking for a simple, reliable unit.
Thanks

I picked up the Actron unit with ABS codes and data logging from Autozone last year because it happened to be on sale at a good price. It's more or less the entry point tool needed for troubleshooting problems instead of just parts swapping.

I am lucky enough to have a programmer that also reads codes (Superchips Cortex) but it is only available for the H3/H3T Alphas.

If you have an Android device (phone or tablet), there is an ELM Bluetooth OBDII Adapter for around $35 (eBay) and whole bunch of apps (ranging from $0 to $6) that do everything from simple DTCs to Mode $06 diagnostics.

Thanks.

Tech II = FTW

Ok, that may be a little over kill for the average user. How about a ScanGuage?

Thanks guys for the info. I went to AutoZone and bought the Actron/OBD II Autoscanner, Model CP9180. Seems to be a good tool.
