Default Nub with New-B ?'s

Hey guys and gals. I have been an Audi fanatic for years, and now have decided my life is in need of some change in the garage. I am big into Skiing and the mountains with some Mtn Bike action as well. So I figured I should look at liquidating my 4 ring stable and get the best Armagedon wagon known to man...an H1.
Problem is I know squat about them. perusing the forums and stuff I find little that gives me any solid buying info. I have seen the 97 and up issues with blocks at 30-50k miles and the HVAC issues.
Problem is I have to settle for something in the twenties so that means I am going to end up with something like '94-97. Which is fine but I want to know what I am getting myself in for.
I do wrench a bit and my best friends are diesel mechanics and enthusiasts. However they have never touched a Hummer .
I have found a nicely modded '94 slant and am hoping I can get him down to about 24 or so. Its got alot done to it has CTIS, winch bars and lights.
80k miles and the 6.2 motor...which I believe was a non turbo mil-spec unit. Any imput would be great...feel free to message or email me as well.

If you can find a 95 with a 6.5 NA you can get a bullet proof motor ona truck in your price range. They are slower than the TD trucks acceleration wise but will cruise the highway at 65 mph with no problems. Still have the old AC unit but the one in my 97 works good enough.
The 6.2 is good for offroading but driving it on the highway will take patience.

Thanks 3Hummers. What is it about the 6.2? Is it just more gutless that makes it a test of patience?
