Default Noise

My truck is a 2007 h3 luxury automatic 3.7L. I've noticed that there is a belt that will squeal when it is wet outside or alot of dew in the morning. Going to fix that. But now i seem to have a rattling type noise coming from the front, maybe engine compartment or something. Can't really isolate where it is coming from. It does it in park, or just idle. Dosnt do it when you give any amount of acceleration. Seems to be worse in reverse. Any ideas? Sounded rough yesterday morning and just curious if anyone had had this problem also. The truck has 55k miles 35"wrangler duratracs, leveled.

Try holding/squeezing together the 2 heater hoses that go into the firewall. If the noise goes away just zip tie the 2 hoses together (not to tight). This is a fix that many dealers have done to cure a dull buzzing/rattle from the engine compartment at idle.

Hope this works!

If you have a LONG screw driver, you can start it and poke around under the hood to see if you can touch (press up against it with some force) whatever is causing the racket..... the noise will either quit when you touch it, or sometimes you can feel it in the screw driver. Exhaust manifold shield is a good one.

Obviously stay away from the fan and belt.

Now here is a long shot. Take a look at your belt tensioner.... if the spring is weak, or the bearing is going, they make a racket and can be related to your belt squeal. ??????

Belt tensioner is a good place to start. Mine started making noise around 94k miles. If you hit it with silicon spray it may silence temporarily, helping to diagnose whether that is the cause. (Of course, that is not a permanent fix).

A couple other sources of the noise could be skid plates or your grille. I have one broken clip in my grille and at the right idle it will vibrate like crazy. It sounds like it is vibrating in the dash and very annoying because it won't do it in park or neutral. Took me a while to find this because of when it would occur. Another item maybe the wire that attaches to the antenna rattling against the the fender. You can get a look at it with a flashlight with the door jamb grommet removed.

Good luck

I will go with the exhaust manifold shield. Usually the first to go. Opposite metals just do not like each other. Mine has a split but has not started to rattle yet. The part and labor will put you close to 100.00 or if you do it yourself you can pick up the part for around 40.00.

Found the noise and fixed it. Easiest fix I have ever done. Dealer left a huge screw driver under the hood. Next question will be why? No recent service under the hood....

maybe they were trying to isolate a noise with it -or create one. I have a 1/4" snap on rachet and 10mm deep socket under the hood of some customers car right now...I'm hoping it will come back to me in the next few months. I have left a few things under the hood of cars, found some good stuff as well though!
