I'm paying just as much for my little piece of Jersey. I pay $4500 now my sister who lives in a townhouse 1 county over pays twice as much for her place which is valued at half of my property.

Everything is expensive in California but Prop. 13 keeps property tax ratesrelatively low. The killer is the high property values. I have looked at moving several times and the reset on my taxes from the higher tax vauation of a new purchase always makes me rethink it. I pay enough in taxes as it is.

That's how it is here in Upstate NY too... terrible.....

 

School taxes are factored into ours also

 

We get taxed 3 times a year. School tax, then town tax, then village tax.... nearly tax you to death... everything goes up EXCEPT wages....There are alot of houses for sale up here, folks are being taxed right out of their homes

 

Taxes are on of the main reasons that many people are selling there homes especially in NJ and NY since they increased taxes a few years back

I'm happy my tax dollars are not wasted here though. Like I said, great schools, good police, good fire, street sweepers still operate, leaf vacuums still operate, garbage, recycling...
