Default Newb Questions

OK, I have a couple of Newb questions. I did a couple of searches but can't find the answers.

What is the cylindrical gauge on the side of the air filter?
Oil life count down... how do I find that? My dash has the odo but it cycles between the trip and odo but not oil life. Is it an option or standard?
The dash lights do not dim, only the nav dims with the switch, is this normal?
Is there a good service manual out there for a 2008 H3 Alpha?
What are some good vendors for parts and accessories?
I had an old GM, there was a way to crosswire the relay where the fog lights stayed on with the brights, is that possible on the H3?

Thanks for your help

Joel

The oil life doesn't have a 'count down', it just comes on with a 'change oil soon' warning.

The cylindrical gauge tells you the condition of your air filter. As the filter gets dirty, and restricts air flow, it creates a suction on the gauge moving the indicator from green (good) to red (dirty).

See attached diagram for fogs + brights. Enjoy your Alpha!

Thanks, on the crosswire- am I just connecting those terminals or do I need to cut the terminal and wire it to the headlight relay?

Actually the Oil Life does have a percent remaining but there is no way built in to read that out. OnStar reads that on the monthly diagnostic report & emails it to you. You can also read it using a ScanGuage II, which I have in my H3 & highly recommend.

No cutting necessary. Pull the 2 relays, stick the diode ends in the #86 slots, and pop the relays back in place. Be sure the silver band on the diode faces the fog light relay as shown in the diagram.

I finally got around to putting the diode in. The fogs shut off and come back on after a 2 second delay when switching from highs to low... is that normal?
