Newb H3 Dealer Locate Question
Hi Everyone!
I'm about to post my intro in the new member forum, but I wanted to get this question in first:
For those of you that did a "dealer locate" on your H1/2/3, how was it transported? Via a rollback / flatbed / etc. Or did the dealer drive it back from the source dealer? I'm ready to buy (once I figure out between red vs. black on the H3Alpha), but the dealer I'm working with says that towing / trailering it back is "thousands of dollars".
Your experiences / thoughts / comments would be greatly appreciated!

I'm thinking that is a load of crap.... not saying it isn't true....
If I were you I would just drive to whomever had your ride....
Here are a few in Jersey.... not that far from you...

The common practice is to pay a grunt to drive it, sometimes for an exchange between dealers. GM will not reimburse the dealer flat bed charges. So, be your own grunt and drive to the dealer that has what you want, or go with the flow. The warranty and a lease starts at the mileage on your ticker when you take delivery, so why would it matter???
The two I'm between, one is in Delaware (69 miles direct, a little longer highway), and the other is in Albany, NY (171 direct (as the crow flies), and 220 (mapquest / google maps)). Between some people I know that ended up with bad experiences with the "dealer grunt drive" (warped rotors, dings / dents, etc) and in the case of the Albany vehicle (200+ miles before I get it) I'm pretty skeptical / scared of the idea. With the rollback price (just quoted online) for towing from Albany to me was $350, I'm sure from Delaware it would be about half that, it should be something that could be done without much of a balk from the dealer if it's between getting me or me going to the source dealer.
Well.... I can tell you for a fact that NuCar in New Castle is a great dealership. If you are interested I would be happy to PM you my salesmans name and you can speak to him.
I think you agree that if your car has to be driven the miles... it should be done by you!!
I also think that PA residents do not pay sales tax when buying in DE.... but check on that.

Just found this:
I was more concerned with the Albany vehicle since it would have almost 300, but the Delaware vehicle would still get it to me with less than 100mi on it.
Thanks for the input so far, I appreciate it!
DE has no sales tax on the car.
But PA wants their cut.
When you register the "new car" in PA - they will take the sales tax at that time.
You are not hte first person to think of this and PennDOT has thought of all the angles.

If they want your business they won't charge you. My dealer had to get my H3 from a dealer in PA it was 150 miles away. They didn't charge me a thing for having a grunt drive it over, it would have been no sale if they did. Remember they want your $ make 'em work for it.
Speednut, are you going to drive the truck once you get it or is it going to sit in the garage. What is 300 miles out of the life of the truck. If you want the truck, get over the miles!!!! Make the best deal you can an pony up to the bar!!!
Working with Scott Hummer on Lehigh St. Delaware one was "promised to another dealer" but if that falls through they'll get it there. If not Mechanicsburg has a few that are missing nav (wife can't drive down the block without it) but the dealer said they can install it locally and wasn't a big problem. Basically I'm waiting for them to say "we officially found one" to start the process.
