Default New with questions

Hi,
Just wanted to introduce myself... I'm new to both off roading and to Hummers. I purchased a 2005 H2 with the intentions of going off roading. I do have a few questions. Hope you don't mind me asking so many questions in one post...
1. How high (ground to fender) is the car supposed to be at all four corners. I heard that the front end is supposed to sit lower than the rear (stock). I'm wondering if the previous owner put on the leveling kit or "adjusted the torsion bars"? And if so how can I tell if the leveling kit or adjusting the torsion bars was done?
2. I plan on adding an HID kit. For those that have them, where do you mount the ballasts?
3. I've heard that stock, the H2 doesn't have enough power... Is the H2 really that underpowered? I plan on adding horsepower, but I know there's plenty of posts for me to read through on that.
4. I know this is a dumb question... But, I can't for the life of me figure out how to turn on the front fog lights. Is there a seperate switch.
5. I'm not a fan of chrome, but the H2 I purchased had the chrome package... How easy is it to change the mirror casings to standard?
6. What type of tires are recommend for what type of conditions? I'm learning everything from scratch. I have never owned anything but sports cars up till now.
7. Is a front locker essential... I kind of figure it depends on how "hardcore" I want to get, but for beginners is it a necessity?
8. Underbody protection... What stock parts can stay and what needs to be upgraded? Again I assume it depends on what I'm doing...
9. Do I really need a brush guard and taillight guards? I don't plan on going in the trees... Mostly rock crawling, sand dunes, and mud.
10. Other essentials? Tow straps, Shovel, Air compressor, etc?
11. I doubt it, but is there any way to make the car lighter? I figure since I'll be adding a roof rack, lights, under body protection, etc. I want to get rid of unwanted/uneeded weight from other areas. I already plan on taking off the rear tire carrier and took out the 3rd row seat already.

I think that's all the questions I have for now... Thanks in advance.

Question 4- Are sure these are fog lights? The H2 has daytime running lights. These will come on autimatically during the day when the vehicle is put into gear. They will turn off when the vehicle is put in park.

Hey Offroadin, whaz up? Welcome. I'm a 3 driver, but I'll bite.
1. T bar adjustment on a 2, nope. Max cranking will get you like 1/2 inch of lift. The 3s can be lifted a few inches w/the T bar adjust. You should be able to see lift kit components if you have one. If your ride height is pretty close to the rest of the 2s you come across, probably no lift.
2. an 4. IDK
3. Hummers are heavy. The 2 has good power and there are mods to do better: intake/filter, Cat back dual exhaust..... read thru some threads and enjoy.
5. No biggy. Sell the chrome on ebay, buy painted mirrors the same way.
6. Plenty of forum chatter on tires, check it out, no one size mfger does it all best thing. Lots of opinions.
7. No. Is there an aftermarket front 2 locker?????
8. Stock has plates, you can go with different or more beef if you choose.
9. Nope.
10. Trail gear is good, you'll need some. A good strap, chain, and folding shovel never hurt.
11. IDK

Man you got questions, I'm goin back to watch Cleveland do in Boston. Whew.

Kseaman... Whatever I have listed in my sig is what I plan on selling. I'm keeping the 3rd row seat for now in the off chance I will have that many passengers.

Dizzy... You're probably right. Maybe they are DRL's... But most cars / trucks that I've seen with DRL's use the headlights..I thought they were fogs. My mistake.

Doc... Thanks for all the info! For #1, reason I asked was that thewheel well gap seems the same in the front and rear. All of the suspension parts look stock, but I know there is a "leveler kit" that raises the front 2"... Would I be able to see these added parts?

Thanks for the quick responses.

1. no way to tell if the torsion bars have been adjusted, other than a level stance. they come factory with a nose dive stance.
3. depends on what you mean by underpowered. it's not a race car, but it can get out of it's own way. there are aftermarket programmers available, but none give you a kick in the *** above stock.
4. show a pic of the lights you're wondering about. if they're inside the lower bumper they're drl's and come on once you take the tranny out of park, but only during the day unless you've put a jumper in the fuse box.
5. changing the mirrors is a pain in the ***, and the chrome actually holds up well to trail pinstriping. other than being shiny, if they work, i'd leave them asthey are.
6. tires are up to you. you can fit a 37x13.5 without any kind of lift, but i'm not sure about putting them on stock wheels, as i've never tried it.
7. front lockers are available, but i have yet to find a need for one. personally, i think they give you a false sense of invulnerability and you'll just end up breaking something else. give it time to determine if you need one or not.
8. depends on what you're doing. i've done the rubicon and Moab with stock underbody, and they go back on with just a little extra effort.
9. no
10. recovery gear is essential. winch, straps, ****** block, clevis shackles, shovel, gloves, water for 3 days, etc.
11. nope, not in any substantial way anyway, unless you want to break down the integrity of the structure itself.

enjoy your truck.

Again, everyone thanks for quick replies...

Shortbus, Yes they are the lower lights in the front bumper. As far as the height is concerned, I will measure all for corners later today and post it up... Hopefully that will tell you guys for sure if it has been "leveled". As stated in my original post I've only owned sports cars... So forgive me for asking but what are ****** blocks andclevis shackles? ALso I kinda figured there weren't any mods that would make this super fast (with exception to a supercharger) and I don't expect that from this type of vehicle. But I read somewhere (or maybe saw a youtube video or two) where they said that the H2 is under powered and couldn't climb up certain stuff... But then I see videos of H2's on Lion's Back (I think) and I figure if it can climb that it can't be that under powered...

One last thing... I was searching for some power parts and came across a website that sold under drive pullies... I've added those on many of my previous cars with good results, has anyone done that yet to the H2?

Ok... So I finally measured the car and the front (ground to bootm of plastic fender flare) is about 41.25" and the rear is about 42.5"

I do not have the air ride suspension. I wasa at the Hummer dealership and they said it looks normal. So can I fit bigger tires on as is, or do I need that "leveler kit" or a lift. So far in my searches I've only seen 4, 6 and 8" lifts... Is there a kit (other than the leveler) that does a 2" lift
