Default New Owner with Issues

Hello all,

This is my first post.Last night wejust bought my wife a 2006 H3 fully loaded. It has 24k miles on it. We are expecting our first child and thought that this would be a good SUV for her. We love the H3 except for the fact that as soon as we left the dealer the Check Engine Light came on. So this morning I went to autozone and had the computer scaned and I got the following code:

P0014-Cam Phasing Error

Explanation-The ECM has detected the camshaft phase angle has exceeded its tolerance value.

Probable Causes:
1-Loose cam or crank sensor
2-Excessive timing chain free play
3-Blocked oil passage in the camshaft actuator assembly or engine
4-Incorrect oil quality or viscosity

The vehicle does seem like there is a miss fire or something. The onstar lady said we should avoid driving it if possible. Now I know that I its still under factory warranty for another 11 months so it should be fixed free of charge. The dealer we bought it from is going to provide us with a loaner car while the hummer is in the shop.

Is this a common problem? Have you heard of this before? What would you guys do? We love the H3. Its exactly everthing we wanted and the price was just right. I am just so confused and worried sick. I havent even had the car 24hours and this. I know this is probably a freak thing. We bought it from a reputable dealer that we have used before but what a way to buy a used vehicle.

Welcome to the forums!! There is TSB on this concern PIP3694B. More than likely it is the Cam Actuater which is miising a screen and letting dirt get into the actuater. I have seen several of these and all were the actuater. Hopfully this is what is wrong with yours. Good luck with your new H3. Steve

So I took my H3 to the local Hummer Dealer. On the way to the dealer the Check Engine Light went off. Will they be able to pull that code back up? I hope that they can recreate the problem and just fix it.

Another question, would this P0014 issue cause a shutter on the highway like a misfire?

Well it was a Cam Acuator issue. They fixed the problem. However today (almost 4 weeks later) I go out to my driveway and there is a oil spot on the driveway. So back to the Hummer dealer I went.

I havent even owned this thing for a month and it is the 2nd time it has had to go in. It only has 24xxx miles on it. Is this normal? Should I expect taking it in once a month? The last time I took it in they said it is in great condition and it was very clean. The Hummer dealer is an 45 min drive one way. Why cant I take it to any GM dealer for warranty work? It is a GM product.

Sorry for the rant. I love the H3, just a little frustrated.

Please leave comments on your thoughts.

Josh

A GM dealer can work on the Hummer but cannot complete warrantee work. I found this out locally when I tried to have a really good GM dealer do work that that the ****ty incompetent, worthless, inept, bad attitude, poor customer relations, uncaring Hummer dealer was required to do. I guess since Hummer is it's own brand and has its own dealer network, they have to do the warrantee/recall work. Did I mention my Hummer dealer sucks?

I too am a new H3 owner, I love it, but I was wondering if anyone has experienced a humming noise coming from somewhere in the front psgr side windshield, I think it is the antenna, not sure though. I was able to take my h3 to local dealer (GM) and they where able to repair a minor problem under warranty.

My local GM dealer did a couple of warranty items on my 06 without any problems. I purchased it used and had yet to have any contact with a Hummer dealer. I think it varies from dealer to dealer. Some GM dealers are really good and some won't touch them. I went to them when I first bought the 06 and tried to develop a relationship with their service folks. I wouldn't hesitate to go the them again My closest Hummer dealer is 2 hrs. away. I purchased a new 08 from the Hummer dealer and had a couple of warranty items to work out. Since I bought it new from them I thought I would give their service department a try, They drove the 2 hrs. to me with an Alpha to drive, took mine back to the dealership fixed it, and brought it back to me 5 days later. I thought that was a pretty good deal. If any more warranty items pop up, I think I have 2 viable options.

The dealer called today so here is a list of the problems

1)Front pinion seal leak
2)Passenger window switch replaced
3)Cylinder head needs replaced.

They fixed the first 2, the cylinder head they are waiting for the parts. They said they have a list of people waiting for the head and they would call me once they get the part and my name comes up on the list. So I have to pick it up and bring back in a week or so when they get the part in. Just what I am looking forward to.

I just hope there are less problems down the line. In addition to the 3 problems on top in the last 3 weeks that I have owned the vehicle I have had the following fixed.
-Cam actuator screen
-Rear windshield wiper sprayer
-Part of the front axle replaced
-Plastic roof trim replaced
-Drivers side mirror replaced
-Leaking rear and front diffs

It only has 24xxx on it and I just hope the problems stop after all this. We never take it off road and only drive it 12 miles a day. My wife thinks that hummers are problem vehicles. I just hope the hummer doesnt prove her right.
