New Owner H3 Question...Engine Light ON
Hi to everyone, I just got a Hummer H3...it is great, however something that happened recently scared me a little.....I started the hummer as usual and I was driving fine, but I notcied that when I was slowing down the engine started to stall....the slower i went the more that the engine wanted to stall....when i was fully stopped the engine was pertty much almost stall all the way (engine almost aobut to go off) ..although the engine never went off completely....the Engine light came on .........this happened only once....everytime after that I have not had any issue like that again....does anyone know why that happenned???....also sometimes when i try to turn the key to turn on the car it wont let me do it...it is hard and I cant turn the key even if i twist the steering wheel...i have to take the key out turn it and try again...weird! ....does the key go in only one way??.....also I do not have a back tire cover..does this mean that the tire can get stolen very easily?..Thank so much.. I love this truck!!
First of all congrats on your new H3. Secondly, what year is it and what is the vin #? (I don't mean post it here lol - just check it) We have threads on a certain vin range that are experiencing numerous head/valve replacements. Check out all the threads at the top of the page on this. Call OnStar and have them run a diagnostic test..good luck.
You could of had bad gas or a glob of water in the tank...Did the engine light finally go out?...if the problem has not reappeared you are probably okay..nothing to worry about.
And as far as the key thing..Make sure you insert it all the way to the hilt...if it is out just a little bit, you won't be able to turn it.
You can get a wheel lock lug nut set at Pepboys to lock your spare on.
Welcome!

Thanks Gentlemen for the replies, no the engine never went out....but it was really close to it...engienlight came on....what i did when it was aobut to go out was put it in neutral and give it gas so that it wont die...( not sure that if i hanvet done this it would totally die) the whole ride home was like that...the problen has not reappeared I hope I am OK...love this truck!!!...I will go to Pepboys tonight....
yes the light is not on anymore..it came on only when it was about to stall, then when i got home and turn the car off and then on again the engine light was not on...........the valve issue that i see on the threads on top is that related to my issue??..they talk aobut it but they dont discribe what the symptoms are...also what is the VIN range?? Thanks..
If your's had the Valve problem it would run rough at idle and the engine light would be on steady.
The VIN numbers before 68287591 (last eight of vin) might be effected as we are told by an expert with GM and Hummers

No that's okay.. I know sweetie about yours..that was a rare one truely..but most with the problem seem to have the telltale Engine Light on, along with the rough idle...But you're all fixed up now thank goodness
