thanks for all the replies.
Anyway, heres some question for you guys with the PCM tunes, It looks like you kinda need to have them reprogram if your going to install an efan. Lets say I don't get the fan at the same time, is that going to be a problem?
also for doc, Is that fan noise really prominent in the vehicle (windows up radio on a/c going etc..) Its always hot down here and I always have the air on so its going to be running most of the time.
I did see where they talk about the thermostats and have some listed (not for the I5) I of course have already experienced the low coolant temp code and replaced the thermostat and It looks like your limited to that oddball housing thermo assy, is there any t-stats that run cooler than stock available?
It definitely needs a shift upgrade, Dunno how high I should go on their scale, don't want to go overboard
Octane, I always put the cheap stuff in everything, out of habit more than anything. around here its listed as 87, midgrade is 89 I think, and top o the line is like 93 IIRC. Of course I would like to remain on the low side, but if one of the higher ups will make a good difference I could change my ways.
sorry for all the questions, I was going through the questionnaire they want you fill out for the reprogram and was not feeling to confident I am going to make the right decisions

I'm in MI, the fan almost never runs December through mid March. I've heard it less than 10 times this year. Mostly in the last week or so in this warm spell.
If you install it the way the instructions call for, when you turn on the AC the fan comes on. If you have the windows up, you have to really listen to hear it, if you have the windows down with the radio on, it is still pretty hard to hear inside when moving. You can definitely hear it when wheeling, like rock crawls under load, since you are barely moving and there is no wind noise generated by the truck.
As for the PCM, I went with the 87 gas, firmest possible shifts, Air Doc intake and CAT back exhaust. So, if you are thinking of doing an intake, do the intake first followed by the tune. If you do higher octane, the tune can make a bit more power, but if you choose 92/93, it will run like crap with 87. If you choose 89, you can still get away with 87 if you have to.
Last, if I were you in FL I would not change to a lower temp T Stat. You end up shifting heat to the cooling system trying to run the motor at a cooler temp which means an Efan will run a lot. IMHO the cooling system for the 3 is adequate, but it is not the highly efficient if you get what I mean.
There are lots of PCM threads here, kick back and read through some, ask questions, and when you are ready, do what you feel comfortable with.
Check out this vid, it has some wheeling where you can hear the fan, and my bros given me what for (they are jealous

thanks for all the replies. I was perusing ebay tonight looking to see if frank kent had re listed the performance exhaust (been watching them to try and get the best price) and I noticed a brand new magnaflow for an unbelievably low price. Even with shipping was a steal! But even better than that I realized that it was a shop right here in town. Even better than that was that shop is owned by an old neighbor of mine!!!!!
So I picked up the phone and called him, I am now the proud owner of a brand new magnaflow system For $340 bucks!!

If your looking for some more horses remove your exhaust manifold catalytic converter. Its probably more gain that any other single typical mod. Probably makes close to as much difference as installing an $800 header AND ITS FREE! You should especially do this if you have an 06 because you don't have to trick the O2 sensor. FREE HORSES!

Got the magnaflow exhaust on yesterday, very easy 30 minute job (on the lift of course). Only thing I noticed was the studs at the front connection seemed a little too long and woudl bottom out before getting tight. was not sure if they are made that way and the nots sort of cut in and lock? I wasn't ready to find out so I added some steel spacers and locktighted the nuts.
It sounds nice, fairly quiet on the outside with a nice tone, louder than I would like on the inside (I'm not a big fan of interior noise) but not terrible. I had installed the intake the other day and all it seemed to do was make more noise, with the exhaust on there now it does feel better going through the gears and not as stressed.
so at least I am going in the right direction
widespread, that was the only hummer exhaust he had right now, but was waiting for a truckload of inventory to arrive up from Miami to see what was in it. He buys out alot of performance inventory and resells, and also has a performance retail store. He told me that this was actually another performance exhaust companies doing. They bought out a whole bunch of magnaflows inventory out of some large retailers in order to get their stuff in there. they are sending the stuff to him and told him to dump it cheap and flood the market with it.
He got a nasty call from magnaflow the other day, but since hes not a retailer for them, he does not have to apply to their rules. Apparantly there is a "muffler war" going on!!
His ebay store is rebel performance, Might want to keep an eye out if your are in the market in the next couple of weeks in case he gets more in the next shipment.
