Hello everyone, I just purchased an H3 and will be picking it up tomorrow. This is my first "real" car purchase (aka parents didnt buy it for me). It is an 06' with 22,000 miles. Black with black and tan interior..love the looks of the H3 and when test driving it, it rode great.

-I lurked through the forums and saw the head/valve issue, did the search and saw that vehicles with a s/n of 287591 or lower are prone to having the head/valve issue, this got me alil paranoid so I looked at my vin and the last six digits(s/n) are the following 3157**...This should mean that my 06' is less prone/shouldnt suffer from the head/valve issue correct? sorry just a bit paranoid with it being a new purchase and all.

The head issue is covered very well here if you want to do more searching. It is not a matter of prone to have it. You either have a pre March 06 3.5L engine or you don't (the motor dat does not have to correspond to your vehicle build date.... ie. motors are built before they go to the assembly plant). When GM figured out that the valve seats needed hardening, they did that on all motors since.

 

Well i just checked on the engine and only found one sticker located on the radiator fan shroud..it has a date on it that says 06/19/2006..So im guessing that is the engine build date. I should be in the clear then since this is an after March 06' motor!
