Default New H1 Hummer owner

Hi everyone, thought I would say hello and share my experience with my H1 Hummer. I just recently acquired a 2001 H1 Hummer. Had a tire blowout driving it back home after I bought it. I knew the tires needed to be replaced so this certainly put a fast track on it.

What was shocking was the cost of new tires for it.

I should add the H1 Hummer is a 2001 with a 6.5L Diesel engine. It has over 200,000 km on it and needs some front end work (CV boot LHS), new brakes.

I plan on doing the brakes myself and the front end. I found a new set of tires for it. Good Year Wranglers M/T 37x12.5xR16. I got them for a great deal or so I thought at $295 per tire.

Congrats on your H1.
Make sure you get the right size tire. The H1 never came with 16" wheels, unless your's are aftermarket. 16.5" and 17" are the factory sizes.

Sorry typo on my part. The tires are 37x12.5xR16.5.

Just picked up the tires and re-installed them. The tires are very heavy and tough to install by yourself. I figure the way close to 200 lbs a piece.

Sorry it is difficult to type on my cell phone so I will repost.

The tires weigh over 175 lbs each. It took some time to get them to be mounted by myself but I eventually got them both on. Torqued the bolts to 110 ft/lbs.

There is an air leak now on the front right rim where the CTIS system connects. I suspect the dealer did not replace the O-ring as they should of and hence the air leak. I will have to call on Monday and speak to the service manager and see what he says.

I was shocked by how much are I was charged. In total, after I was charged $738.00 to install two tires. This included (4) tubes of lubricant at a cost of $160.00. After speaking to the manager I was able to get them to balance the tires. Initially, I was told they were not able to balance the tires and wanted $923.00.

Trials and tribulations, I just hope not all my dealings will be this taxing or trying.
