Default New to the group (super excited!!!)

Hey all. I wanted to introduce myself. I just bought a 2003 Hummer H2 that is stock and has the adventure package on it with front grill guard mounted fog lights, sunroof, third row seating, roof racks, and nerf bars. I am very excited that I finally have one!!. I have always loved these things from when I used to watch CSI : Miami, In fact I actually got the same color and everything that the CSI crew used to drive around.
I was hoping that when the time comes I could ask (bug) you guys for some info.
The truck is in great shape, except for somethings that I am reading through here that are common issues (one being the leaking as jsbihn just asked, thanks)

I understand from reading that these are a modified GM chassis (half 1500/ half 2500, I think), but I am wondering if there are some parts that cross to GM cars/trucks. Like right now I want to replace the seat heater buttons because they are all worn off. The button themselves work, the stick is just worn off.

Also, I am wondering if anyone has ever painted the interior of these truck, I read 2006sut's build and think he painted his??. I have some part inside that I want to clean up, but not sure exactly if it would work, or if it does, what is the right way to do it. I dont want to end up doing it, and then one little scuff destroys the new paint.

Also, are these any issues that can be easily fixed with the back windows. I can hear the motors turning but the windows wont go down. I think it almost sounds like they are off the track or the motors arent attached to the track...
and kinda the same with the sun roof. i can hear the sunroof move enough to make a noise, but after that it doesnt move at all.

Thanks guys

Yes many parts from the GM trucks do cross over.... The seat heater buttons will work just fine from any GM truck. Just make sure they look the exact same. One neat one that I did on my 2003 was I replaced those same buttons but I got one from a later model that has the "global windows" buttons as well. On 2005 -2007 H2's they added two more buttons to that panel. Global windows - one press and all windows go down at the same time, press the other to roll all up at once.

Here is one - https://www.ebay.com/itm/05-07-H2-Le...n/183525293517
The window buttons are not too great looking though. The one I got looked perfect and just a year later some of the paint on the buttons has already chipped off a little. I just use a bottle of satin black touchup paint and a tiny brush to touch them up. You can also fine that switch with the extra buttons but they will have pedal icons for the GM SUV's that had the power adjustable pedals.

One BIG catch though. For the global windows to work, you also have to replace the DDM (drivers door module) which is the drivers door window switch. That module has the programming for the global windows buttons and the programming is not present on the 2003/2004 models and it cannot be added or enabled, even using a GM Tech2. I know, I tried. The DDM is not cheap either.

Welcome to the Hummer family. It's true, there is nothing else like it.

Wow thanks MixManSC... the DDM thing you are talking about. Is that a computer? also, can you find them easily? whats "not cheap"? what should I expect to pay? if I am able to get one, does it have to be programmed for my truck? like enter in the vin, or is it plug and play?

The DDM is the drivers door power window switch. That is actually just one of the many "computers" we have. The passenger door window switch for example is the one that controls the keyless entry system.

It is plug and play, as is the heated seats buttons. The DDM, not very cheap. Usually $175+ but sometimes you can find a used one. It is GM part number 15883429... You would need the heated seat switch that has the two additional buttons plus the DDM for the global windows option to work. There is one on eBay now that is $91.00 plus $10 shipping. That is about the cheapest I've seen one and is less than I paid...
