New Buyer: Manual vs. Automatic

Haha, well, it's only an 01 A4 1.8T Quattro. More his baby than mine, him being the sports car type and myself being the "Get outta my way or I'll your run butt off the road with my truck/SUV" type. Yes, I am that person that gives SUV/truck owners a bad name.

Hi,
I have been looking at buying one also, what about the towing difference, in Australia its only 1360 kg for the manual and 2040kg for the auto?
This suggests to me that the manual is not as Strong as the auto or maybe the clutch isn't up the the job?
Thanks Peter

Thats why I thought that the manual may not have been up to the job? 3000lbs for the manual and 4500lbs for the auto, thats 1500lbs difference. Is it the same over there?
Cheers

Hi, I was hoping someone on here knew, as I know the auto that is used in the h3 is also used in our Holden 5.7L V8's and are very strong.

b. Wow 17.4 mpg?? 270 miles?? How fast were you going? I regularly drive the truck on the highway for 800+ miles, and I regularly get 19mpg going 70-75mph with 2 adults, 3 kids, and a ton of luggage. This is with a stock 40k mile nasty air filter too. I'm doing the airdoc and k&n filter soon, and hope to breech 20-21mpg highway.
wasn't really hauling much cargo: 110 lb girlfriend, about 45 lbs of luggage, 30 lb ice chest, and about 60 lbs of beach chairs and canopy/tent thing

hmmm, I'll try again and try to keep a more constant speed when I take a trip entirely interstate in a couple weeks. The trip to Florida was on 2 lanes some of the time and I had to do some high rev passing, but did 70 mph for most of it, then 80 mph for about 50 miles

Edit: can an automatic get that number? If TS doesn't live in a very hot region and he can drive without ac, and having that 5th gear, he might be able to save himself a lot of money on gas
