Haha, well, it's only an 01 A4 1.8T Quattro. More his baby than mine, him being the sports car type and myself being the "Get outta my way or I'll your run butt off the road with my truck/SUV" type. Yes, I am that person that gives SUV/truck owners a bad name.

Hi,
I have been looking at buying one also, what about the towing difference, in Australia its only 1360 kg for the manual and 2040kg for the auto?
This suggests to me that the manual is not as Strong as the auto or maybe the clutch isn't up the the job?
Thanks Peter

Hi, I was hoping someone on here knew, as I know the auto that is used in the h3 is also used in our Holden 5.7L V8's and are very strong.
Thats why I thought that the manual may not have been up to the job? 3000lbs for the manual and 4500lbs for the auto, thats 1500lbs difference. Is it the same over there?
Cheers

I held out for a manual and I am glad I did, but I come from a sports car type background. The only way I would have considered an automatic H3 would have been if I was buying an Alpha.

I will have to look at my owners manual to see about towing capacities; though I'm sure there wont be any difference in numbers over here?

I know the auto's in therese are tough.. but had no idea Holden used them behind their 5.7's.. thats awesome!

They were used in our HSV series which is our high performance v8s which came from the factory at around 290 KW or 390 hp and 510 Nm or 380 lb/ft of torque, and they can be built up to handle a lot more.
Thanks for checking the towing figures.
Cheers

This is with a stock 40k mile nasty air filter too. I'm doing the airdoc and k&n filter soon, and hope to breech 20-21mpg highway.
hmmm, I'll try again and try to keep a more constant speed when I take a trip entirely interstate in a couple weeks. The trip to Florida was on 2 lanes some of the time and I had to do some high rev passing, but did 70 mph for most of it, then 80 mph for about 50 miles

wasn't really hauling much cargo: 110 lb girlfriend, about 45 lbs of luggage, 30 lb ice chest, and about 60 lbs of beach chairs and canopy/tent thing

did that interstate drive this past weekend, measuring the fuel consumption from a gas station at the on ramp and one at the off ramp. Even though it was 90 degrees out, I turned off the air and only kept the vent going. Only hauling a backpack this time. Set the cruise at 65 mph, and I got 23 MPG!! I was amazed, considering the 17.4 on my last trip.

Edit: can an automatic get that number? If TS doesn't live in a very hot region and he can drive without ac, and having that 5th gear, he might be able to save himself a lot of money on gas
