Need a muffler
My 2000 soft top is getting an inspection and it needs a muffler. Is there any good options for a replacement or should I go back with the stock one? The only OEM one I found was about $600...ouch. Would love to hear what you guys think.
I put a new system on mine. I bought the 4 inch catback system from SS Diesel Performance and bought a 4" in and out straight through Dynomax Muffler off of ebay. Part Number 17225. It looks and sounds pretty good. The reason I had to buy the muffler is because SSD's system is a mufflerless system. I just had them cut a section out and add the muffler for inspection purposes. The system was about $500 and the muffler was just under $100
Off-topic, sorry. But Joe, can you compare your SS diesel exhaust to rubberduck's? RD's system is $1450, which I think is pretty damn expensive. A member over at hummer network put it on his truck and the whistle is noticeable. What do you recommend?
In California's restrictions, I would use the stock system for inspections, then change out after so I wouldn't have to buy another muffler.

I haven't gotten home yet to hear it. Im in Afghanistan right now. My wife says it sounds good and still allows you to hear the turbo. I think RDs exhaust system is way overpriced. I cant compare them because ive never had a RD system. sorry.
So I got home from Afghanistan yesterday and took a look at the SS Diesel Supply exhaust system I had installed on my Hummer while I was gone. I have to say I'm very impressed and surprised. It looks great and it's massive. I had a Dynomax muffler put on it for inspection reasons but you can still hear the turbo whistling. Highly recommend this system.
