my new h2 in winter
A major failure of American cars is rust .. A Swedish car is always rust treated .. I watched enough of 5-6 hummer truck before I bought it I have now .. All the others were red as a fox in the frame ... The one I have now got treated when it came to Sweden. I could drive in the winter but I choose to upgrade it with new stuff every winter..
you are in the same situation as me... i picked up a 2003 H2 with 57K miles for 18K on Aug 13..... and the previous owner had it coated with some tar like undercoating...looks like ziebart......
i could see spots where the coating had dried out and with a scraper ... it would flake off and beneath it was where all the RUST was hiding....so fast forward to now.... one month sitting on my driveway... and with the rear section removed / disassembled. started the dereust ritual... wirebrush/scraper/angle grinder.. pressure washer at high pressure... coat the framed in Phosphoric Acid with a brush... for a couple of hours.. keeping it moist and wet... recoating every 30 mins... a final rinse off with water... and blow dry all the areas with a air gun .... and let it dry.... whatever remaining rust which i failed to removed , it would turn black means its reacted.. and some whitish residue means no rust and its just dried up phosphoric residue
thereafter... i coat it with KBS RustSeal... which is from the same folks who did POR15.. i am now down to the rear diff casing.. which i have to wirebrush it this week... coat it.. and i am done for the rear...
not sure how well it would hold up... but better than nothing....

Same here! I lived in CO. and after getting stuck up near Vail after a day skiing with my ford Explorer 4x4 I said "to hell with it" and bought the deuce. my wife and I would fight over who got to drive it in severe snow storms. I usually relented and let her enjoy the safety of the beast! while I dealt with a FWD Maxima...yuck! had to miss a few days of work because of the maxima but If I had the hummer I never had an excuse to call in because of road closures.
