MPG POST cylinder/valve surgery - 11.27.06
The sticker at the dealer says 15 city and 19 highway. Mine gets 14,55 mpg mostly city driving...The first week I brought it home I checked it and it was getting 12.25 mpg...subsequently a substantial difference. My Avalanche before the new heads was getting 14.03 mpg but after the head transplant it was only getting 13.9 mpg. Just my 3 cents…
Over thanksgiving I drove from Dallas to Mississippi and back. I was really eager to see how many miles I would get on a sustained road trip. I was pretty pissed when i discovered I was only getting about 16.5 - 17 highway with each tank-full. I'm wondering if the following are the possible reasons why:
1) I usually keep the recirculate button on and the fan on about 1. I realize this sends air back over the condenser, which prolly helps to eat up the gas.
2) Maybe the above combined with the added weight of the brush guard and side steps?
Anyway, I don't get 19MPG HWY and I sure as hell don't get 15 MPG in the city. I never punch it or floor the gas pedal. I've never even taken it over 4000 RPM. It has only 2100 miles on it too.
Well, it IS a Hummer I guess...but I did expect to at least get the EPA sticker MPG.

Keep in mind the EPA guesstimates are just that, a guesstimate. Your engine is still young. Let it get broke in with about 5000-10000 miles before you get upset with mileage.
The only problem you would have with the HVAC affecting MPG is when you put it in recerc, the ac compressor is running and that is an extra load on the engine. Other than that, HVAC position wont have ant impact on MPG.

getting the gas mileage on the sticker in ANY vehicle is hard if even possible. I have read gas #'s from hundreds of h3 owners on this and other boards and trust me, 90% of them are getting in the 14-17 range, no where near the #'s on the sticker.
I've got over 12K and my mileage is staying roughly the same. I expected a slight increase, or was hoping for one, but overall, I'm still not complaining. It has the aerodynamics of a brick, and has an overworked squirrel chasing a carrot for an engine. It's not like you can expect hybrid level fuel economy.
