LS2 motor, 17 mpg on the highway. When I'm going up I70 towards from Denver, I go about 75 a 2200 RPM rather than 3500 rpm with the old I5

And engine. Now you might also want to know my son has a 2006 4x4 Tacoma king cab. and after he put on the bigger tires his gas mileage and power went to s—t. He has the V6 and the H3 has the I5 so I learned that if you change the gearing ( bigger tires ) and the weight mass and friction ( wider heaver tires ) on these small engines your fuel and performance really suffers. On my Truck 8.1 engine when I added bigger wider tires I never could tell the difference. With all that said I added the K/N cold air intake to the eH3 today, runs a lot better noticeable performance gain and fuel testing is still to come. The Gibson and a chip or tune is in the future, when I did all three – K/N , exhaust and Tune to my truck the difference is huge.

Here are the pictures of the mod.

The fist picture is looking down at the air tube with the intake box on the left and the other shows the intake opening in the front skid plate on the left.

More pictures. I know what your thinking; It doesn't look very good for fording water or deep snow situations. i made a plug. I also steamlined it by replacing the plastic flex hose with a single piece of 3" heater hose. The plastic elbowis from the intake system on a 06 Nissan Titan which I had put a K&N on. I traded the Titan in for my H3. Good trade!

I traded my 04 Grand Cherokee for the 06 H3 and love it. I get better mpg in the H3. Mainly due to the transmission. I have a manual in mine and I added a K&N air filter. The best mpg on the highway was 19.1. I drive once a month from OH to TN. My speed did not exceed 70 mph. Typically I drive between 70 and 80 mph and average around 18 mpg. Mileage is always better heading North to South versus South to North. I can see geeting 20 mpg with the modifications and applying some hypermiling techniques. As long as I can by gas, I will drive my hummer.

Yep, your open pipe would be boogered up good here in MI winters on pavement. It would be MIA with a good off road foray. I think the second fender opening in the volant box negates your "ram" effect? Worth a try I guess.

I getjust under19 MPG with the cruise on 75mph, easy on the ramps and starts. I have gotten 19MPG on days when there is little or no wind, but usually the Hwy mpg is 18.8 or so.
