Question More Wheel & Tire Questions: 33 vs 35

I've been sick but now I am back halfway healthy and almost ready to drop some big money on the Alpha/H3. If I may ask a few more questions, please don't kill me! Does anyone have any regrets going 33 over 35 tires (No Lift Kit)? I'm leaning to 33 tires just because of possible better MPG and I need to be under 7 feet to enter my Garage. This is a one time splurge of cash so I don't want any regrets so I'm at the mercy of other's input, your experiences, the good and bad.

I am looking at this set-up:

Lift front end using T-bolts to level vehicle at 23.5".
Bilstein shocks with 1/2" extended bump stops on front.
Bilstein shocks on back also.
Warrior Products #128 shackles on rear springs.
-----
18x9 Dick Cepek DC-2 wheels
Nitto Trail Grappler LT295-70R18 tires

My Questions:
33 vs 35 tires?
Dick Cepek vs Rock Star?
Nitto Trail Grappler? Road noise?

My Rig is 90% street / 10% off road mainly Florida Beaches (sand).

Any advice or feedback very much appreciated.

Thanks!

You do not need shocks, extended bump stops or shackles. Do your T Bar adjustment, get your tires/wheels and then add shocks, shackles or extended bump stops if you think you still need those.

I would never put rice rubber on my truck.

33s will do anything you need them to do, 35s reduce final drive ratio and aren't going to improve your sand traction. 35s provide approx 7/16" more ground clearance, but suck power and MPG, you have to decide if you want that trade-off for what you are doing with your truck.

My 07 is on 33" (305) Mickey Thompson MTzs, which are the same width as 35s, an inch wider than the 33" 285s. Consider a wider 33" vs a 35"?

IMHO 18" wheels on a Hummer is just goofy, and certainly are the single largest waste of $$ one can blow on an aftermarket automotive item which you will never recoup come resale time.

It's your rig, enjoy!!!

The 305/70/16 idea sounds about perfect for H3Ray. If you crank the t-bars and put shackles on it will be about 2" higher, but still ride nose low/tail high if that bothers you. I think 35's on 18" rims look good and beefy, but for function I would stay with 305's on 16's.

Oh NO, not this guy with the same question for the 5th time!

Dude PLEASE, read, read ,read, ALL of your previous posts on ALL the HUMMER forums and the responses you have been given and please make a frickin decision this time!

The 2 photos you show are exact opposite. 1 is a total mall / street queen and the other is an OffRoader.

You have said you will never use your rig OffRoad so why not just throw 20" RIMZ with street tires on it and call it a day. Enjoy Cruising the beach.

Sheet or get off the pot, please!

Dude,
you don't know my life or what I been thru and I been sick so stop attacking me. New tires and wheel plus maybe a lift kit is big money.
I want to make the right decision ....

I run 33'' on mine and im very happy with them, and I agree a 16'' wheel is all that is needed.

Don't know Ray. I have stayed with 16" wheels and don't regret the decision at all. I have also never regretted going to 35" tires. You are modding your truck to please yourself. No one else can tell you what will make you happy. If you do go with a lift kit I don't think you will be happy with how 33s look though.

Thank you.
I posted on another forum, but since I see more info here, I'll contribute again.

Wanting good MPGs & a lift are counter intuitive. You'll lose MPG, period, even if you stick with stock 16" wheels & 31" tires. Question is, how much of a lift? 35s will look beefier, but 33s won't look terrible, either.

You said in another thread you're 90% highway, 10% beach. What I want to know is (and this goes out to ALL tire thread, so maybe someone can respond here), WTF is the percentage referring to? Mileage (doubt it's 10%), driving time spent in those conditions? You basically want a tire than won't get bogged down in sand, but will do very well on the interstate. That's what I gather.

I'd find out what that tire is first. Then find out the weights of them as 33s vs 35s vs even 37s (as mentioned in another thread). If the revolutions per mile drop w/o increasing the weight a lot, you've found your answer for both the type of tire needed & size. Next is the lift & I couldn't help you there as mine is stock & staying stock.

When I was a kid, I liked larger wheels. They were "cool," but now it's not a good idea from the ride quality standpoint (more tire wall = smoother ride) as well as price. Tires for 18s are going to set you back a lot more than 16s. If you're concerned with spending the cash, stick with 16s & get the tire you want. You end up saying that you want a larger wheel down the road, upgrade then when you have the cash flow. The problem with upgrading everything at once is that if you're not happy, you have no baseline to diagnose the problem. Is the lift set up right? Is the tire the problem? Maybe I shouldn't have bought larger rims? One thing at a time...
