Default Million $ Idea For All Oil Changing H3 Owners

I just thought I would pass on a neat trick I learned while changing my oil.The first time I made a big mess removing the oil filter, because I relied on the "funnel" attached to the frame to catch the oil.The problem being there are 2 plastic rivitsholding it to the frame, andit's not sealed. Lots of oil got into the frame with no good way to get it out. So this time I took some RTV black and sealed the rivits up before hand. Worked perfectly! Not one drop of oil in the frame this time.

So does this mean you don't have to loosen any of the bolts for the skid plates if you do this?

You still have to remove the skid plates.

Thanks for the tip...I'll be changing my oil for the first time next week. Can you get the sealer where you need it without taking off the oil filter?

Yes. It needs at least an hour to dry, but I would do it a few hours ahead if you can. You should read the threads on oil changes, because your in for a treat.

That's exactly why the dealer will continue to do mine until the warranty runs out.

After sealing up the oil filter drain, it makes it a lot easier and less frustrating. After I did mine the first time I said never again, but now it's not that bad.

A trick I've heard about is to cut up a 2 liter bottle like a funnel. Then hold it around the filter while you remove it.
