Highly unlikely. Most of those cheap "performance chips" are simply a resistor to trick the IAT sensor into thinking it is taking in cooler more dense air to increase the air/fuel mixture. Usually they do nothing.

 

Ah wouldn't you know if it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

No problem. Like you said, its too good to be true. Way back in the day I remember putting a resistor in a vehicle I had. Did absolutely nothing. However, you can replace the IAT sensor and other things within the MAF with more responsive sensors. When I had my GTO that was one of the big mods most people were doing. I never got around to it myself.
