Manual trans swap nv4500
hey guys so my h2 03 has now 185xxx miles on it and i do a lot of towing with it. As we know theses transmissions are made of glass and i have heard many horror stories. So i am starting to prep for the inevitable trans swap. I am looking into doing a manual trans swap into it i have done some research and have only found 1 thread of a guy with a manual swap however its so old that the pucs are gone and there wasnt a parts list.
So far i know i need an nv4500
a custom trans mount and probably custom drive shaft
modified pedal setup from a chevy hd
and a custom shifter setup
other then that my questions boil down to will the ecu be fine running a manual trans or can i run the ecu out of a 2500 with same motor and manual trans setup
can i run a 4wd version of the nv4500 will it mate up. If i run a 2wd setup will it be fine to let the front wheels free wheel.
Any help is appreciated.
I am not new to swapping motors and trans that dont belong.
My project car is a 92 firebird with a 454 bbc and a t56 6 speed and a 4th gen rear built in my garage Just incase anyone is wondering about my mechanical capabilities.
Thanks in advance

A stick shift H2 would be cool. Are you going to be able to utilize the console? I would hate to have to remove it for the shifter. If you got 185k out of the Automatic, why not rebuild it for another 185k miles?

Theres a guy on youtube he makes brackets and shifter relocation kits using tie rods to relocate shifters in the chevy trucks just so they can run consoles. So im sure the console would need some cleaning on the inside but it should be able to pop up in stock shifter location. As far as the auto goes. Its a sloppy trans and well a manual hummer is just taking a great truck to the next level lol and from my pricing so far it should cost the same either way.

I remember the pictures of that nv4500 swap thread before they disapeared. The guy did make a shifter linkage that relocated it above the floorpan but under the console to the stock auto shifter location. If I remember right he mounted a stock tierod end onto a plate and tapped a small piece of bar stock for the same threads as the tierod to use as a pivot. I believe he bought the transmission, pedals and associated parts out of a similar year silverado 2500 and its was a pretty close fit.

Book for Hummer H2
Here is an excellent repair manual for Hummer H2, but unfortunately it is Russian. True pictures in excellent quality and layout is excellent.
