Lucky to make it home-now to the dealer.
Yesterday found some narrow trails through white birch forest. The hills were at about 50% grade up and down on decomposed granite so besides being steep it was slippery. Had to use 4 wd low with diff. locked. Made it there and back only to find that the next day I was getting the following messages, "service stab. sys., service 4 wd., traction failure". I disconnected the battery like I did several times before when I had this problem but this time it did not reset the system and correct the problem of not being able to get into 4 wd low or lock rear diff. If this would have happened yesterday we would have had to sleep in the H3 and hike out a loooong ways. I know I would have never heard the end of it from wifey as she wanted to buy the Xterra. So now I have to bring it to Lund Hummer in Scottsdale. Anyone have any experience with this dealership? If you start to get this message sooner or later you may have this problem.
I bought my H3 at Lund--they've always treated me very well for service and sales. Loaner Caddy (for warranty issues) through Enterprise there onsite. My vehicle has always come back on time. They also have pickup and dropoff service of the Hummer. Free donuts and bagels too!
Where were you offroading?

skeet, I got the same message before and back when I got mine there were a few people on here with the same problem. Turned out to be a loose connection, all the other members that had the same message also had loose connections, I think at the T-case.
Yup. Me too. You probably have a wiring harness that got snagged and pulled out. Look underneath your H3 at the transfer case and transmission and see if you see any wire connectors hanging down or cut.
I'll chime in here too even though I'm in a deuce .. .time to get the crawler out and get underneith that truck ... either busted or pulled out harness ... if nothing else you will get a chance to see just how bad of a job you did cleaning the underside of the truck after your wheelin' trip :-) If you don't find at least a couple of buckets of mudd, pebbles, rocks, and twigs you didn't go wheelin', you just left the asphalt temporarily :-)
THe underside is totally clean as I put down blankets before I drive over mud. I did look under it and the wires look fine. The dealer though it was a motor (that he has in stock) and will replace mine with it. I can not afford to drive 250 miles round trip and lose a day of work to not have it done right. Today it fixed itself but after not being able to get it back working is not acceptable. The reason I do not think it is a loose wire is several times all I did to fix it was disconnect the battery. The H3 was not moved or jarred and it was fixed.Alrock- how are the donuts? D Vader- hate to tell you but there are places in Arizona that you get zero ON Star reception or else they're eating donuts and do not want to answer me. This was on a trail leading up and past Timber Ridge. I did not turn the GPS on like I should have because there were so few off shoot roads. I did find the bones (almost a complete set) of 9 or 10 animals that must have been cows as the bones were way more massive then deer' or elk -though I am no expert on bones though I did stay at the Marriot a couple of years ago. This also never showed up on the On Star diagnostics I got e-mailed today. If someone would like pics of where I go or of the H3 I would be able to e-mail them to you and maybe you could post them. I am over loaded with learning new things like how to work the 500CE gps, dig. camera - hell if I accidently press the wrong button on one of my 4 remote controls it can take me an hour to get the TV working again. The good thing is it takes the wife 2 hours.I do not even have time for all my hobbies or to drive the Z06. I finally took it out a couple of days ago only to prevent the seals from being dried up. I am also afraid I am going to lose my license but that is another matter. No way can you drive that car slow. Even if it is just for the sound of the engine. If I had to choose between my Z06 and the H3 it would be hard but living in AZ and not having a real 4 wd is like living on an island and not having a boat.Zyne- this is one road that would be very, very difficult when wet. I think you would need a wench. It is not just a steep series of hills but they are banked and you would slide into rocks or trees. It almost happened even when dry. That is the only bad thing about having a beautiful 4 wd you are not fast to remove paint or do unwanted body work. I wish I had my old Internation Scout with sheet metal as thick as OJ's head.
Skeet - glad you made it out andI hope they are able to fix it for you.
My mother-in-law lives in Precott Valley and I empathize with you about that drive into the valley - that is a long way to go and you better hope they can fix it in one day! As far as the Z06 vs. the H3, that would be a hard decision for me coming from a sports-car background.
Myin-laws' house is just off Coyote Springs Road, effectively at the base of Mingus Mountain. If I lived there and had a Z06 (or Ducati 1098S) I would be up and down 89A every day, reveling in the Z06's exhaust echoing off the canyon walls on the way to Jerome for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Haunted Hamburger...
