Loose Roof Racks???
Hey guys,
If you grab your racks and tug forward or aft, do yours slide at all? Mine do and I have tried everything I can think of to get them to stop moving. The only thing that I've found to work is to bang the front part of the black plastic backwards with my fist. that seems to jam them in place. If I don't the rattling drives me crazy.Am I missing something here????[sm=dontgetit.gif] Thanks..... |

RE: Loose Roof Racks???
Thank you for the help, however I don't have lock knobs. Mine have a locking arm that swings into lock and unlock, and have to be installed from the front by removing a plastic cover that allows access to the rails.
Are those instructions for H3? It looks like H2 racks???? At any rate...Thank you for posting that for me. |
RE: Loose Roof Racks???
Definatly something wrong there, mine do not rattle or slide around at all, But I was a little suprised they do not sit more flush.

It's either late or I've been starring at my Avatar to much.
I thought I was in the H2 forum, sorry When you pull the handle a screw type latch turns with the help of a low tension spring to lock into place with the side rails. If they are not locking down they maybe kuput. Also look for rubber locking tabs the fit into the rail they will stop any movement when put in front and back of the rail,I may have some laying around if you need them. note this is not a real fix if you rails are broken,it will work but I'm not sure how much weight they will hold back. |
RE: Loose Roof Racks???
I just installed mine. They are Aries ones and yes. They slide in between the stops. I don't know how to stop it, but I am open to suggestions.

They're brand new. Maybe 3 weeks old. They are the second pair I've had. I returned the first ones because I thought something was wrong with them. They were doing the same thing. As long as I bang them into place, it's all good until I pull on them again. I guess the moral here is "DON'T PULL ON THEM" ....LOL |
RE: Loose Roof Racks???
What's happening is they're not locking into the right place, but rather between those places causing them to slide -- try moving them a long the rail and slowly trying to depress the lever. Don't worry - you'll find that sweet spot that locks them solid - patience is key.
