Default Looking at buying a used H2

Hi all, I'm new to the community, and hope to be a new Hummer H2 owner very soon.

I saw an ad in the paper for a 2004 H2 with about 69,000 miles. Is there anything I should look for, listen for, feel for when I'm taking it for a test drive? What questions should I ask, how should I go about making sure I'm not buying one that's going to crap out on me? I've heard that H2's are unbelievably reliable, but I have heard some stories about the transmission acting up once you get into the higher mileage.

I'm from Toronto, Ontario, and the guy is trying to sell it private sale for $23,500 CAD.

Any input and suggested advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've posted some pics below.

It looks like he upgraded the mirrors to the new 2006 style. That's a plus. Ask for service records and if it runs and drives fine I think you would like it. Maybe ask if you can have it inspected by your favorite mechanic or dealership.

What does that convert to in US $$? You may be able to find a better deal..I bought my 2005 H2 fully loaded with 28K miles for just under 24K..

Check the undercarriage for offroad damage..listen to the interior while driving, some older ones can squeak and rattle like crazy..check the carfax also.

getting it inspected is always good but not always easy

In addition, make sure you check all electrically operated items to make sure they work: mirrors fold in-and-out, radio/cd player works, seats move/tilt in all directions, seats heat (if it has that option), moon roof works and doesn't leak, all windows work, etc. The list is fairly long.

When I go to look at one I look at the bottom of the truck. If you see a bunch of scars and scratches then it has been offroaded. If it has none then its been on the road only and is certain to be in good shape.
Secondly I would let carmax look at it. They can tell if it has been wrecked or not. Lastly I would pull service records on it and pull the dipsticks on it to check the oil and the tranny. The big part is look under it. If its scratched and scared up it may be a bad purchase. If not then your good to go!

Since we bought our used 2003 H2 with 90,000 miles, the darn radiators have sprung a leak between the two, letting transmission fluid into the anti-freeze, and the fuel pump took a crap.
The fuel pump is just a GM thing, $700,00 fixed the problem.
See if the underbody pops and creaks when you go over a small curb.
We still like it, but just crossing our fingers as to what might go wrong next.

I read last night that if you sprung that kind of leak you also have water in your tranny... and the clutch packs cannot get in contact with the tranny... if so the tranny must be re-built. This coming from an H tech.....

Just FYI

Used vehicles with 90K miles will have some issues. That is usually accomodated in the purchase price. I have seen many early H2s with high mileage that are in excellent mechanical condition.
