lifted H1 stiff ride
hey guys, i just got my H1 back from the shop. had it overhauled and it stayed for almost a year. i had them install a 2" lift kit, the spacers from rubber duck. and the ride became extremely stiff, almost undrivable.
i dont know what to do. new shocks? or will the ride improve with time because the truck didnt move for a year?
i appreciate any input. thanks!

I REALLY like Rubber Duck products. They build great stuff, I mean REALLY great stuff, but I don't like suspension lifts for this exact reason. They do build the best coil spring spacer lift on the market (by far) but no matter what you do if you add a spacer to the springs it makes the truck ride rough. In a light truck (like an open top or even worse in a HMMWV) adding a coil spring spacer lift will knock the fillings out of your teeth.
Couple options:
1 - Remove the coil spacers. (By far the cheapest option)
2 - Buy our air ride suspension. It provides a suspension lift (up to 6" but it isn't designed to be driven around at max height all the time) but more importantly it provides adjustable height suspension. Most people want a big truck for the few days a year they go off road or have a really hot first date but 360 days of the year you probably want a truck that is easier to get in and out of. Our suspension kit does both. You set your "default" height (at any height you like from below stock height to around 3-4" over stock) but then if you want to lift it more just add more air. Our kit is expensive and high maintenance (ever single air system in the world eventually leaks, this is no exception) but it ride awesome and I love the adjustability. It's not a product for everyone, but those who have it love it.

Hi Friends!
I saw you where talking about the lifting so you might know what to do with my issue. I have 1992 hummer H1, 6.2 diesel. I am doing complete re haul. I removed body from frame and took it for paint job. I do not want to do any lifting, but before I marry body with frame again I wont to replace body mount bushings so that if required in the future I could put in turbo engine which will not fit in 1992 6,2 diesel h1 without 2 inch lifting. So i am told that hummer h1s have 2 inch higher body mount bushings since 1996. Where can I get those bushings? And am i right to assume that by installing 2 inch higher body mount bushings I will have truck ready for installing turbo diesel engine in the future without lifting the body from frame again?
Best regards,
Beso

Technically the turbo engine only requires the 1/2" body lift, its just a 1/2" spacer on the factory body mounts. Id call Rubber Duck 4x4 for the body lift (1/2" or my preferance the 2. 1/2"). Personally, i would go with the 2 1/2" body lift. It makes the truck a lot easier to work on(you have more room) and you can put up to 39" tires on. The 2 1/2" lift is required when upgrading to the super 77 turbo and inner cooler. I would contact my brother eric at Big Dog Offroad in golden co- they have a joint venture with Amg and have some new products In the works about to be released. Its basically a factory amg repower kit. I cant put the details as the product is not available quite yet, but should be for sale very soon. Your 1992 hummer could do 80+mph. Since you already have the body off i would also look into putting auburn differential lockers in- big dog off road has them on sale right now.

Ian Ward!
Thank you for the prompt reply! I was thinking on p400 turbo upgrade later though and that is why i want to lift the body to sufficient level. Right now I am concentrated on outside looks and custom interior. So instead of using spacers that you mention on "old and damaged" body bushings, where can I get new body mount bushings that would do the job. I leave in Europe and I have searched Rubber Duck and other hummer parts sights but I cant quite understand what size of body mount bushings I need because I can not find them sold separately and sizes are all in inches not centimeters. So what size of body mount bushings should I be looking for in order to have my truck on the sufficient height for later p400 turbo installation?

Call Rubber Duck for the lift kit and any nice, handbuilt accessories you may need. They make real high quality stuff. All the body bushings are the same size. The lift kit spacers are also all the same size. You should order all new body rubber bushings and the 2 1/2" lift kit. Also check out the RD hood prop kit. Its a gas shock that holds the hood. You get rid of the hood support bar thats right in the way and it goes from the spring bracket to near the front of hood. This makes it so much easier to climb up and work under the hood.
If you're thinking about a P400 thats great but you cant install a p400 turbo without a ecm and the wiring harness and the 4 speed 4L80E transmission. You and all the HMMWV's will need a mechanical fuel injection system( no pmd or ecm ) This has never been made. If doing a re- power with a GEP p400 turbo you will also need to go with the 4 speed 4L80E transmission and t242 Tcase. I would contact my brother Eric at bigdogoffroad.com for upgrade options. The BDO air suspension system is custom fabricated and they are the only one who makes it. Im sure some ***** bags (Mark Pyles aka. hmmwvlife & humvette etc.) will try and rip off the design like they have ripped off other custom big dog offroad and RD designed and fabricated products. Big Dog Offroad is a AM General GEP & GTP dealer for all your factory part needs.

This is something HMMWV and older Hummer owners have been asking for years: "can I take out the old 6.2diesel/6.5diesel/5.7gas engine and replace it with a 6.5 turbo diesel engine?" The answer has always (and still is): no. Yes, it will fit, but you need the electrical parts to make it run and those don't currently exist. We do have something in the works so please call me if this is your plan and we can talk.
I have tries to call you recently Eric no answer! I do understand your suggestions. For p 400 turbo I need new transmission, wiring and perhaps better geared hubs and differential assembly. I asked price in Us engine manufacturers and its about $19k there +shipping overseas and local customs duties.(that is without - geared hubs and differential assemblys+ better half shafts). What I want to know is: can I by replacing BODY'S UPPER CUSHIONS have truck ready for future transplant of all of the above? Higher cushions don't help? and if they have to be spacers WHAT SIZE (1/2 what inch)?? and where do they go under cushions? and how many?
